Kelsey,
Remember this relationship is not just student & teacher. It is also
employer & employee. You are paying the teacher for their expertise
and to learn piano. You are in control and can dictate, within the
limitations of the teacher's expertise on teaching, the course of your
learning. Just remember you are paying them for that expertise and
take that into account. But if they cannot meet you where you are in
terms of accomodation, then you have the power to terminate the
relationship and find someone better suited to your needs. It's tough
to exercise that power, I know. But in the long run, it serves you
better. :)
Good luck in learning! My own experience with my guitar instructor has
been nothing but fantastic as we both searched for ways to make my
learning faster and easier. :)
