[Perform-Talk] Jobs in audio or reading audiobooks

Hello,
This an interesting topic. I am a Soprano Singer, an Actor and
voiceover artist. A subsection of my voiceover work is audiobook
narration. I live in the UK so someone a little more local to you
could be more help in terms of where you find work. However, you need
to be able to demonstrate what you can do, through a voicereel of
extracts of books. The ideal would be extracts of jobs you have
already undertaken but if you're starting out, find samples of 90
seconds or less, each, then record. If you do not have a professional
studio in your home, you will need to pay for studio time hopefully
local to you. If you want guidance or direction whilst making your
voicereel, there are lots of companies providing this service. Try
different things, see what your strengths and weaknesses are so you
can promote yourself at your best. This will also help when you're
ready to market yourself. For instance, voices and accents are my
specialty with a subspecialism in childrens' voices. Your own may be
quite different, like engendred voices or different languages, reading
technical information naturally. experiment!

As to where to find work,

ACX which is a subsiduary of amazon.com  has plenty of work but you
will need to be able to mix and master your recordings, or else pay
for engineering help. Be mindful of your costs especially if you
choose, in the early days, to accept work for no payment.
