[Pibe-division] ITBS and COGAT testing in Braille

I feel I need to disagree with this. First, copyright permission would need to be obtained from the test publisher, as standardized tests are not covered under the Chafee Amendment. Second, you can't just "braille up" a standardized test and expect the results to be meaningful in relation to the norms or the actual abilities of the child. There is a great deal of information about this on the APH website at:
http://www.aph.org/tests/publications.html
You would be better served finding a more or less functionally equivalent exam that is available in accessible format.

Go ahead and get permission from the state to have either the TVI or a brl cert person braille it up for her....everything needs to be able to be available for our kids...with a brl cert person on board, I handle all situations like this so our kids are not left out and so can anyone else

My daughter's TVI just called to tell me that neither the ITBS nor the COGAT test will be available in Braille for my daughter this year. She is in 1st grade and these tests will be administered to all the other students. Has anyone else run into this in the past, and how did you handle it? From what I've heard, the state (Georgia) will waive the tests but our county will not. We don't want the tests waived anyway since we believe it sets a very bad precedent for our daughter. In addition, we want her to be tested for the school's gifted program and one of the things they consider are scores from standardized tests. Our TVI is following up on this but I wanted to see what I might be able to find out as well.
Thank you for any advice or suggestions.
