Agency Profile:  The mission of the WSSB is to provide specialized quality
educational services to visually impaired/blind (BVI) youth ages birth-21
within the state of Washington. Our purpose is to serve as a statewide
demonstration and resource center and provide direct/indirect services to
students both on campus and in the children's local communities. Each
employee plays a critical role for the school and our students.  We value
our employees and continuously challenge them to improve the way we provide
service to our students and the community. 

 

Position Profile:  The WSSB is seeking a candidate to fill the Associate
Principal position.  This is a Washington Management Service (WMS) position;
the successful candidate will report directly to the Director of On-Campus
Education.  The successful candidate will have the following
responsibilities: will work in conjunction with school districts, school
employees (WSSB and district), parents, students and various stakeholders to
ensure that each student meets their highest individual level of success and
independence. In addition, will be responsible for the following (including
but not limited to):

Primary Responsibilities

.            Assist the On-Campus Director in the overall administration of
instructional program and campus level operations.

.            Coordinate assigned student activities and services.

.            Participate in development and evaluation of educational
programs.

.            Assists the Director of On-Campus Education in developing,
maintaining and using information systems to maintain records to track
progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence
indicators.

.            Observe employee performance, record observations and conduct
evaluation conferences. 

.            Supervises operations in Director of On-Campus Education's
absence.

.            Assists in planning daily school activities by participating in
the development of class schedules, teacher assignments and extracurricular
activity schedules.

.            Assists the Director of On-Campus Education in student
management; implements appropriate procedures and maintains consistent
practices within the school discipline program.

.            Serves as a liaison with student support services such as
transportation. 

.            Assists the Director of On-Campus Education in staff
development by identifying topics for staff development.

.            Conducts conferences on student and school issues with parents,
students and teachers.

.            Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications/Competencies:

.         Masters in field of Education or related field.

.         Current teacher certification in the state of Washington.

.         Administrator credential from accredited university or college.

.         Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) from an
accredited and nationally recognized university program.

.         Strong knowledge of programs and services for BVI children and
education laws and regulations.

.         Experience as a lead in curriculum development.

.         3 or more years serving as a TVI.

.         Excellent management, communication, organization and public
relation skills.

.         Must be able to pass federal and state background checks.

 

Desired Qualifications:

.         3 or more years of experience as a TVI.

.         Knowledge and interest of accessible technology for BVI
individuals.

.         Entrepreneurial attitude toward program expansion and stakeholder
relations.

.         Ability to exercise strong decision making skills and to lead by
example.
