National Federation of the Blind Names Angela Wolf
2011 Blind Educator of the Year

Baltimore, Maryland (July 5, 2011): The National Federation of the 
Blind (NFB) has named Angela Wolf, a teacher at Austin Discovery 
School in Austin, Texas, as its 2011 Blind Educator of the 
Year.  Angela Wolf was presented with the award at the NFB's 
seventy-first annual national convention, held at the Rosen Shingle 
Creek Hotel in Orlando, Florida.

Ms. Wolf has worked in education for over seven years.  She began 
working with blind children as an intern teacher at Sanchez 
Elementary School in Austin, Texas.  From 2005 to 2008, Ms. Wolf 
served as teacher and coordinator of post-secondary education at the 
Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, ably coordinating a 
dual-agency education program for blind students aged eighteen to 
twenty-two.  Since 2008 she has taught elementary-school students at 
Austin Discovery School, an innovative charter school.

Dr. Marc Maurer, President of the National Federation of the Blind, 
said: "Angela's exceptional work in the education field is proof of 
our conviction that blind people can compete on terms of 
equality.  Ms. Wolf has dedicated herself to educating the future 
leaders of America and in so doing has become a leader and a role 
model herself.  The National Federation of the Blind commends Ms. 
Wolf for her outstanding professional accomplishments as well as her 
commitment to dispelling misconceptions about the abilities of blind people."

Ms. Wolf received her bachelor's degree in humanities from the 
University of Texas, Austin.

The Blind Educator of the Year Award carries with it a $1,000 
prize.  While in Orlando, Ms. Wolf will address several hundred 
people and have an opportunity to share the experiences and insights 
that she has gained from being a blind educator.
