Hi:

I have a different question for teachers of the blind and visually impaired who teach students with additional disabilities. I am trying to locate an opththalmologist or low vision optometrist with experience in condducting an eye exam and writing eye reports for a few students with additional disabilities with a visual impairment. The insurance is mmedicaid. I am looking for the above specialist in New York City. The areas I can consider is Brooklyyn and Manhattan New York. One local doctor that one parent contacted who was competent to evaluate the particular students did not accept medicaid insurance. I am trying to assist two parents locate a competent ophthalmologist or low vision specialist at either a hospital or low vision clinic. If any teachers can provide me with the names of ophthalmmologists or optometrist Names and affiliated hospital or low vision clinic pleasse feel free to post to this list or You may write me offlist at: sararooz at gmail.com

I have been told of two low vision clinics. The first low vision clinic is at the The Lighthouse low vision clinic and have suggested Dr. Michael Fisher for the parents to see. The second recommendation froma parent of another student is is DR. Cohen at Suny Oproometric Center. Does anyone know if Cornell has an ophthalmologist or low vision specialist that I can recommend to the parents of a few students. What do people feel about the new yorkEye and ?Ear Clinic? I am hesitant to make a recommendation for this hospital, since I went to thiseye institute affiliated with this hospital to deal with my own eye complications of ROP and was not impressed by the ophthalmologist I saw. I actually found a better ophthalmologist whose affiliated with Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center. This ophthalmmologist is competent with my eye condition and the possible complications.

I am looking for more experienced teachers of the blind and visually impaired in new york responses. Thanks colleagues for reading my post.

The parents are willing to go for an eye exam and report and do not want vision services for their child to be terminated.
