I have gone through both the braille and nemeth and they are not difficult...just lots of work and time to do everything. You can email all your lessons, they will pair you with someone to be your teacher and they will email you comments and grades about your work or if you feel confident in your skills, you can just go straight to the exam part...brailling 35 perfect pages of braille, or multiple and varied Nemeth pages...all the rules and guidelines are on the site
 
I do highly suggest going through the courses first...It is the rules that will hang you up, not necessarily the braille or Nemeth
 
Yes, you are in competition with the people in prisons who produce braille far cheaper than people who are not in prison. You can set your price per page, Music braille pays the most, then Nemeth, then Braille but you are in competition with everyone else who does this and there are many major companies already doing it. The more rare the skills, the rarer it is to find people to do, hence more pay. Even in that, you could probably not make a living off it unless you went big time full time and everyone knew about you, but a good way to supplement another income...but it is VERY time consuming.
 
Goodfeel has an excellent software program for Music braille
Duxbury for Nemeth and Braille, and another Nemeth program that escapes my brain at the moment
