*Position Overview*
The DCPS Office of Specialized Instruction (OSI) aspires to be the district

The Inclusive Programming division works to provide a high quality
continuum of services in an inclusive environment so every student with
disabilities is prepared for success in college, career, and life. The
division works with schools to design, implement, and monitor programs and
supports for students with disabilities.
The Coordinator, Visual Impairment is responsible for supporting teachers
who provide specialized instruction to students with visual impairment to
include blindness. Candidates should possess specific knowledge, experience
and expertise related to Teachers of Visual Impairment (TVI), Cortical
Visual Impairment (CVI), and Orientation and Mobility (O&M). Under the
supervision of the Manager, Low Incidence Disabilities, the Coordinator,
Visual Impairment will be responsible for providing high quality services
centered on research based interventions and targeted strategies so that
students with ocular or functional vision challenges can access the
curriculum and have the opportunity to make meaningful progress toward
identified educational goals and objectives. The Coordinator, Visual
Impairment will support students pre-school through age 22.
The Coordinator, Visual Impairment will report to the Manager, Low
Incidence Disabilities.
*Essential Duties and Responsibilities*

- Prepares, implements and revises individual teacher coaching plans and
outcomes with specific schools.
- Supports vision teachers in developing observable and measurable IEP
goals and objectives.
- Schedules and coordinates school-based meetings with staff.
- Reviews eye medical reports for eligibility and instructional
implications.
- Participates as a vision professional in eligibility and IEP meetings;
maintains service notes.
- Conducts Functional Vision Assessments and Media Learning Assessments.
- Works collaboratively with other DCPS professionals and families to
review medical documentation of conditions that might have resulted in CVI.
- Conducts the CVI Range on students confirmed to have CVI.
- Reviews Vision Therapy Assessments for eligibility and instructional
implications.
- Delivers consultative vision services to teachers with visually
impaired students in their classrooms.
- Delivers consultative instruction related to the expanded core
curriculum for students with visual impairments.
- Ensures appropriate accommodations, modifications, adaptive and
assistive devices, supplementary aids and services are provided to students.
- Ensures timely receipt of and access to educational materials,
adaptive and assistive devices.
- Interacts with and responds effectively to urgent requests from
multiple internal and external DCPS stakeholders.
*Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree and two to four years of related work experience.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Previous exposure to or experience in the education sector a plus.
- Master's degree in special education or related field preferred.
- Experience working with children and young adults with visual
impairments to include blindness preferred.
