Hi Kristen,
Sounds like what I do too. How about the rest of you?

Hi Gail what I know about CVI I learned from the INSITE professional development I received through the Louisiana Center for the blind. I still don't know a whole lot about it though I do agree it is becoming very prevalent in our field. When faced with one of my first students with CVI, the parent described it as being a light with faulty wiring. For most of my students I find this is accurate. Sometimes the vision is there and fine, sometimes it is reduced, and sometimes it is gone. For some students I find that illness can impact what type of vision they come to school with. The vast majority of my students with CVI have other disabilities (physical and/or cognitive). I still teach them alternative techniques tailored to their cognitive level. For some students I provide consultative services teaching classroom teacher and para educator alternative techniques to allow the student as much independence as possible. For other students I provide direct services especially for those utilizing assistive technology and/or Braille.

Hi again,
Teachers! I haven't heard from anyone yet! I really would appreciate feedback on how you serve your students with CVI. I would like a perspective from around the country. If you would prefer, you can private message me.
Thanks for your help and professional opinions and perspectives.

Subject: CVI question

Hello to all the teachers out there!
I am a "old" teacher in the field for 32 years. Back in the day when I first started, CVI didn't exist. Now it seems like so many kids have CVI. I am wondering how you address CVI with your students. Do you use the formal Roman protocol? How much training have you received for CVI?
I am just trying to get a feel from others around the country. (also this helps with my professional development plan!)
Thanks so much.
Gail
