Job Description:
Rehabilitation Teacher III The mission of DBS is to work in partnership with Texans who are blind or visually impaired to reach their goals. The Career Guidance Instructor II is hired by and reports to the Career Guidance Supervisor and performs highly complex (senior-level) rehabilitation planning and instructional work. The Career Guidance Instructor II is responsible for objectives that provide evaluation and training services to Criss Cole Rehabilitation Center (Center) consumers that promote the Texas Confidence Builder's philosophy to include the use of non-visual techniques, integration of blindness skills and facilitation of autonomy and self-direction for student and adult learners who are blind. Duties include: evaluating and training blind consumers in a residential setting; planning and facilitating trainings with agency staff and consumers; coordinating activities with consumers and staff that involve community experiences including volunteer work; facilitation of business networking to promote relationships resulting in work partners, assisting in job coordinating functions. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs related work as assigned.

Essential Job Functions:
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs related work as assigned. Classroom hours and required attendance for this position are from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Conducts evaluations involving situational assessments and observations. Training activities include career exploration, interviewing skills, development of job retention skills, and informational interviews; prepares and coaches consumer for community work experiences; incorporates teaching and training methods with consumers and staff involving the use of alternative blindness techniques. (40%) Creates individualized lesson plans, tracks and documents students' progress and correlates to lesson plans. Performs progressive evaluation and adaption of lesson plans as needed to ensure success of consumer. (25%) Creates opportunities for business networking and business relationships resulting in Work Experience Program partners. Performs cold calling on statewide businesses to create network of employment and work experience partners. Conducts business plan development; coordinates with field staff to develop business relationships in the community. Conducts research on current job market trends and projections and incorporates information into consumer training activities and plan for success. (20%) Performs accurate and complete report and record maintenance duties to include individual consumer lesson plans, training documentation, progress and summary reports. Ensures reports are coherent, consistent with activities, and timely. (10%) Participates in and makes training presentations for staff development. (5%)

Knowledge Skills Abilities:
List the knowledge, skills, and abilities critical to performance in this position: * Knowledge of agencies and other resources providing services to people who are blind or disabled. * Considerable knowledge of career assessment tools, occupational exploration techniques and job readiness teaching strategies. * Considerable knowledge of the vocational rehabilitation process. * Considerable knowledge of adaptive technology for people who are blind. * Knowledge of business, marketing, or sales techniques. * Skill in written and oral communications for effective expression of concepts including the ability to process records and reports with accuracy. * Proficiency using personal computer in word processing in a Windows environment using Microsoft Office Suite programs to produce required reports and documentation including e-mail communications. * Skills in leadership and organization to assist with work coordination. * Ability to plan, teach and evaluate in a training program environment in individual and group settings. * Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written formats (e.g., clearly express ideas, instructions, and reports). * Ability to plan, organize and implement essential functions for efficient results and accuracy. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with consumers, departmental and agency staff and others outside the agency. * Ability to perform interpretive skills to problem solve effectively with consumers and staff. * Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in accordance with established policies, procedures and guidelines. * Ability to maintain confidential information. * Ability to demonstrate flexibility by serving as a willing participant, team leader, member of a work group, or in another role required for consumer confidence building and/or effective Center operation.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:

Initial Selection Criteria:
Bachelor's degree in education or related field. Experience teaching adults. Knowledge of marketing techniques and the value of working with business community. Knowledge of vocational rehabilitation process. Proficiency and capability presenting information using technology.

Additional Information:
Final Candidates will be asked to demonstrate all skills required and make a teaching presentation before a panel consisting of management and team members.

Hello everyone, I have resubscribed back to the list and wanted to

introduce myself. My name is Merisa Musemic. I graduated with my

master's in rehab. counseling from Wayne State University. Wayne State

University is located in Detroit Michigan. I'm currently volunteering

and looking for employment. If anyone knows about any rehab. counselor

postings please do not hesitate to share it with me.  Also I'm

considering applying with Virginia Department for the Blind in

Norfolk. I'd like to connect with someone who works for VDBVI to find
