Purpose: Instructs students in one or more academic subjects in English (K-12).

Instructs students in a well disciplined, managed, and creative classroom by:
Developing learning goals/lesson plans that are appropriate for students and are aligned with the school's curriculum and state standards; demonstrating an understanding of the connections between the content that was learned previously, the current content, and the content that remains to be learned; creating and selecting teaching methods, learning activities, and instructional materials or other resources that are appropriate to the students and are aligned with the goals of the lesson/unit; creating or selecting evaluation strategies that are appropriate for the students and that are aligned with the goals of the lesson/unit; establishing and maintaining professional rapport with students; establishing and maintaining consistent standards of classroom behavior; and making the physical environment safe and conducive to learning.

Assesses/monitors student progress by:
Determining the extent to which individual student's learning goals were met; keeping records on academic performance and attendance; conducting tests (Standardized and State Proficiency) in accordance with OSB policy and state law as requested; reporting cases of suspected child abuse to administration and/or law enforcement authorities according to state law; making referrals for special services on an as needed basis; communicating with parents or guardians about student learning; participating as a member of the IEP/ETR team (i.e. collecting and maintaining data, completing evaluations, completing progress reports and write educational/behavioral plans /reports); and conducting parent-teacher conferences on an as needed basis.

Continues to develop professional skills by:
Building a professional relationship with colleagues to share teaching insight and to coordinate learning activities for students; participating in faculty meetings, school committees, educational conferences, and/or professional training days; staying current on recent trends in blind/visually impaired and specific subject areas; submitting an annual Individual Professional Development Plan for review and approval by the LPDC; and upgrading personal/professional knowledge and skills pursuant to State of Ohio teaching licensure requirements.

 Minimum Qualifications:

Must maintain valid Ohio license in Intergraded Language Arts 7-12; must have or be willing to obtain Visually Impaired PK-12 certification.*

*Visually Impaired certification may be obtained after employment.
