[rehab] question for the list

No, but I had a professor who worked in Iowa. They used a one week immersion
methodology. The dean of students learned how difficult it was for
individuals in wheelchairs to negotiate certain parts of campus without
adequate ramps or ADA regulations being properly observed.
At the Louisiana center for the Blind, they use the immersion method for
those students entering Louisiana tech to obtain a graduate degree teaching
the blind, or in the orientation and mobility program. In Orange Burg, the
students are trained in mobility blind folded.

I am a consumer, and wouldn't accept training from someone who wasn't
proficient in the skills I wish to learn without sight. I learned Braille
from sighted teachers who read the code with their fingers alone without
sight, and was taught to cook and clean, and iron by a totally blind
person. I think the quality improves when the sighted person uses the same
skills on an equal footing with me.
