Hi,

Following some meetings between President Riccobono and NIB leaders,
National Industries for the Blind (NIB) and the NFB have come to an
agreement on subminimum wages. The NIB Board came out strongly prohibiting
payment of subminimum wages in NIB facilities. NIB may sign on to our
minimum wage legislation in the future. This is a big improvement. Billy
Parker of NIB sent me this posting for a new training program the NIB is
offering. Data security is a big issue in the federal government, and NIB
was asked to develop a training program to help. This is exactly the kind
of modern employment opportunity NIB should offer. I hope many of you will
consider this program.

Thanks,

Dick Davis

*New Career Opportunity: Cyber Security/ Information Assurance (IA)*

National Industries for the Blind (NIB) is seeking motivated blind or
severely visually impaired individuals with IT experience to join its
Information Assurance Training Program. As a result of increases in
information systems vulnerability, IA is becoming more of a focus and
priority. Federal and commercial requirements will also continue to grow as
a result of their information systems becoming more susceptible to outside
attack. Information Assurance is a career field that can employ people who
are blind or visually impaired at the professional level. NIB has developed
a training program to help meet this need while simultaneously providing
high-growth career opportunities to people who are blind or severely
visually impaired.

*What is Information Assurance? *

Information assurance refers to the people, hardware, software, policies,
and procedures that protect information systems. Definitions of information
assurance emphasize that it ensures:

   - Information is available when needed
   - Integrity of the information is sound
   - Authenticity can be verified
   - Information is kept confidential
   - Proof of the integrity and the origin of the data can be provided

*What is National Industries for the Blind? *

NIB’s mission is to enhance the opportunities for economic and personal
independence of persons who are blind, primarily through creating,
sustaining and improving employment. Jobs ranging from manufacturing to
call centers, high-tech distribution and management exist through a
nationwide network of associated agencies.

*What is included in the IA training?*

Approved participants are going to be enrolled into an on-line training
program to receive A+ certification. CompTIA certifications were developed
to offer networking professionals a vendor-neutral credential that
validates the technical skills and knowledge needed to succeed in an IT
career. These skills are required for Service Techs with most companies,
recognized by U.S. Dept. of Defense, and held by 900,000 IT professionals.

With the A+ Certification, you will be qualified for specialized jobs
including Technical support specialist, IT support technician, IT support
administrator, and help desk technicians. The training is on-line and takes
an estimated 60 hours to complete. Following the training participants need
to take .

*Where are these jobs located?*

Following the IA training program NIB is going to support participants with
being placed on contracts with associated agencies around the country. We
do not currently know where these opportunities are going to be so
flexibility for relocation is required.

(*There is no guarantee of placement following the training program*)

*Qualification Criteria:*

• Legally blind

o 4 year degree or equivalent work experience

o IT background

• Proficient in:

o Computer technology (Microsoft Office)
