"I ask you to show me a "functional family."
I do have a FUNCTIONAL FAMILY! And I am blind except for light perception
in my left eye which is slowly going away.
I'm the President/CEO of my own wee, small company, Victory Associates LTD,
Inc. My company specializes in durable medical equipment & supplies and
I've been serving the needs of many, many satisfied customers here in Denver
for 20 years and counting! By the way, all of my company's customers are
sighted.
I have three sighted children: Two boys and the world's most glamorous
daughter. All three are in college working hardest to become professionals
in the fields of Computer Information Systems/Supply-chain management,
Social Work, and Kinesiology/Physical Therapy.
I've taken my children on numerous cruise expeditions through the Eastern
and Western Caribbeans ALL BY MYSELF, blind as a bat! My oldest boy just
returned from an International Business study abroad program in the great
state of Santa Catarina, the city of Florianópolis, Brazil.
My children have helped to build and rebuild churches in Indian reservations
in Montana, parts of Colorado and Wyoming; one of them has been to FIVE OF
SEVEN continents: He was in fact in Kurmin, China on a gospel mission. He
went there at age 15! My children have done mission work in Mexico, and,
yes at their request, I did go with them on this one!
I'm still blind and will remain so for as long as I am alive! And, yes, I
do have a true functional family and my children are envied by their peers.
Yes, my three children are fully sighted and they have never given me any
grief! Perhaps I am a lucky idiot; I'll take my idiocy and keep on running
with what my children and I are doing right! And no, I DO NOT cajole them
into doing anything; I let them MAKE THEIR OWN DECISIONS from a very tender
age. We do sit together to debate the merits and demerits of decisions
made, and, when necessary, we put difficult decisions on the Bunsen burner
and revisit them at a later date.
I am internally and externally grateful and thankful that my children and I
have a good rapport amongst ourselves! I am one lucky brat, I guess; I'll
remain grateful and thankful to My God for what He has enabled me to achieve
working with my children as I look forward to greater heights and
opportunities for us to keep on impacting lives as best we can.
Sincerely,
Olusegun
Denver, Colorado
