Station Manager
Radio Talking Book Service (RTBS) is seeking an experienced,
energetic station manager to join our team. RTBS serves the state of
Nebraska with a mission to provide human-voiced information to
individuals who have visual or physical disabilities that prevent
them from reading. RTBS is a radio reading service that broadcasts
statewide over closed circuit radio stations and via the internet.
The Station Manager is responsible for the day-to-day technical
operation of RTBS. This position is primarily responsible for
engineering programs for broadcast and rebroadcast. Broadcasting
and/or sound engineering experience is required and experience with
WireReady automation is preferred.
Duties:
1. Operate the board and make station breaks during scheduled shift.
2. Assist Executive Director in hiring of part-time announcer/engineers.
3. Train and schedule all part-time announcer/engineers.
4. Prepare programs for broadcast and, where applicable,
rebroadcast. Check length, quality, and content. Prepare special and
holiday programming as needed.
5. Create new playlists and update program schedule for
WireReady automation. Set up programming for future broadcast days
when possible. Inform Volunteer Coordinator when programming is needed.
6. Answer phones as needed and provide information and answers
to questions regarding Radio Talking Book. Assist listeners and
potential listeners with reception and program information as necessary.
7. Assure that all electronic equipment is in good working
order. Make minor repairs; arrange for other repairs as needed.
Quality check returned receivers before re-use.
8. Maintain connections with carriers and their engineers.
9. Make live, on-air announcements as needed.
10. Produce Public Service announcements as needed.
11. Perform other duties as assigned and as necessary.
Qualifications: Broadcasting and/or sound engineering experience
required, WireReady (or other automation system) experience
preferred, ability to operate complicated electronic equipment, and
must work well with volunteers and part-time staff.
