Google Docs: Spellcheck

So last week we talked about how to perform a spell check in MS Word, so you know what we are going over this week?

That’s right. Same skill, but in Google Docs.

There are many accessibility features in Google Docs that fall short of perfect, but guess what? This isn’t one of them.

It is so easy that we really only need to tell you one key command. Here it is....

Begin Spelling and Grammar Check: 

Ctrl + Alt + X

With that one key command, a spelling and grammar check dialog box will open with the first correction that needs attention. Then, all you have to do is tab to the suggestion that you’d like and press enter. The tool will then move on to the next correction, and, well, that’s it!

Remember, anytime you want to move back to your document, press Escape.

Now if this key command does not work for you, I’d suggest checking that screen reader support is enabled and maybe switch your screen reader modes. Maryland Regional Braille Challenge

The 2023 Maryland Regional Braille Challenge is a competitive reading and writing competition at the Maryland School for the Blind! Braille Challenge is the only academic competition of its kind held in January through March each year for students who are blind or visually impaired. Braille Institute developed Braille Challenge to motivate students to practice and hone their braille literacy skills, which are essential to academic and employment success.

At this event, we'll have our own booth and informative session where you can stop by and learn more, or just say hello!

MSB Workshop

This full-day in-person workshop will teach professionals in the field of blindness basic screen reader skills needed to read, write, and edit text; navigate the internet and how to approach users who are resistant to screen reader instruction.
