TTJ Voiceover class, October 25, 2023.
Notes submitted by: Rita Howells

Topics:
Calendar app, Maps App, and Reminders App.

Calendar App:
The Calendar app native to the iPhone is quite functional.
I have found that it is useful to use SIRI to schedule appointments in my Apple Calendar app.
You need to invoke Siri by saying "Hey Siri" and then quickly say something such as "schedule an appointment on my calendar for a particular date and time, plus say the word "Title" and say what the event is going to be.
When you want to schedule a Calendar Event, you can use SIRI.
Just say, Hey Siri, schedule appointment for Monday at 8 AM, titled, "order cat food".
The Apple Calendar app for your iPhone is one of the best free calendar apps available, and it has many features you might not be fully utilizing.
How To Add a Repeating Event to Your iPhone Calendar:
Note: When running VoiceOver, perform a one finger double tap gesture, when the directions say to tap on an item.

Open the Calendar app.
Find the event you want to edit or create a new one by pressing the + icon. VoiceOver will announce the + button as ADD.
Tap Repeat.
Select how often you would like the event to recur.
If you would like your iPhone calendar to repeat the event on specific days, you can tap Custom.
In the Custom window, you can select the frequency of the event and make adjustments to how often it should occur. Tap the New Event Back button in the top left to return to the previous screen.
Tap End Repeat.
Tap On Date.
Tap the date.
Your calendar will automatically set the end date for one month after the initial event, but you can select a custom date for when you no longer wish to be notified of this event.
Tap Add in the upper right corner when you have finished personalizing the rest of your calendar event options.

Maps App:
How to get a list of step-by-step directions in the Apple Maps App:

Instructions for Step by Step Directions, when running VoiceOver:
Open the Maps app.
Enter the destination that you want turn-by turn based directions for, in the search bar.
You will find a list of results, just under where you typed the information for in the Search Bar. Double tap on the correct address if it appears in the Search Results area.
If you want to see a list of the steps before driving, double-tap where it tells you the approximate time and so on, just to the left of the button to the “Go" and start navigating. This brings up the list of turn by turn directions.
You might have to double tap a couple of times to get the steps to open up in a list.

Reminders App:
The Reminders app has a visual icon with a white background, and Three colored bullet points each with a gray horizontal line after them.

Note: When running VoiceOver, perform a one finger double tap gesture when the directions say to tap on an item.
Note from Rita: I find it so convenient to set location-based reminders, with Siri. Sometimes when I am out in a car and we pass a location (such as my local bank), I think of something that I need to do when coming back home. I can simply say to Siri, “Hey Siri, set a reminder to cash that check I received in the mail, when I am next at this location”.

How to Set a Location-Based Reminder
If location tracking isn't already enabled, you will need to first enable Location Services for the Reminders app. To create a location-based reminder in the Reminders app, you can make a new reminder or edit an existing one. Follow the steps below to set up a reminder to alert you based on location.
Create a new reminder or tap an existing one and select the info icon. The Info icon will announce as “More”, when running VoiceOver.
Tap the Location toggle.
Tap Current to set the reminder alert to go off the next time you arrive at your current location.
Tap Home to set the alert for when you arrive at your home.
Tap Getting In to set the alert for when you next get into your car.
Tap Getting Out to set the reminder alert for when you next get out of your car.
You can also tap Custom to set a reminder alert for a home, business, or other location.
To create a custom location, enter the business name or street address and tap to select your desired location.
Tap the toggle to select Arriving or Leaving, so the alert will either trigger as you get to your desired destination or as you are leaving it.
If you want to be reminded next time you're near this location so you won't forget to go there, select Arriving.
To adjust the radius of the reminder location, tap and drag the dot on the location circle until you've set it as wide as you want it. This comes in handy when you want to make sure the reminder alerts you even if you're just passing the location.
Tap Details to return to the reminder and save the location.
Tap Done to save

Grocery List in Reminders:
Once you have created a Grocery list in the Reminders App, you can use SIRI to send a reminder to the Grocery List option, and the list will be automatically organized related to lay out of the Grocery Store.
Grocery list feature in the Reminders App, automatically sorts grocery lists by category.

Note: When running VoiceOver, perform a one finger double tap gesture when the directions say to tap on an item.

You will first need to create a grocery list in the Reminders app.
After you have manually, created a new groceries list, you can utilize Siri to add items to your grocery list. It will magically appear under categories in the groceries list.

Open the Reminders App,
Tap on the “New Reminder” button, which is located in the bottom left corner, on the Tool Bar.
At this screen, type the word groceries. Then Tap Done.

If the items aren't automatically sorted, tap the “More” icon image.
