As the year draws to a close, we’re thrilled to share a mix of updates for digital accessibility and assistive technology. 

SOC 2 & HIPAA Compliance

This year we’ve been hard at work strengthening our processes to ensure that data protection and trust remain central to everything we do. Achieving SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA compliance marks a major milestone in demonstrating our commitment to safeguarding client data. While these values have always been part of our mission, completing the audits offers a clear and tangible reassurance of our dedication to security and transparency.

Major Digital Accessibility Updates

The past year has brought significant developments in digital accessibility, highlighting the importance of inclusivity and compliance. These changes are redefining how organizations create and deliver accessible content for everyone.

Three major developments stand out: 

*	DOJ’ New Rule on the Accessibility of Web Content and Mobile Apps Provided by State and Local Government: The U.S. Department of Justice now mandates that all public-facing websites and mobile applications comply with WCAG 2.1 AA standards under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Organizations must review and update their systems to ensure accessibility for public services, education platforms, healthcare resources, and more. *	Website & Document Guidelines: WCAG 2.2 introduced new guidelines in 2023 and they focused on improving usability for all digital content. Key updates included Target Sizes, Focus Obscurities, Dragging Movements, and others. Since WCAG 2.2 was released, many organizations this year are now testing their websites, course materials, and documents with the updated guidelines. *	Accessibility Lawsuits: In 2023, web accessibility lawsuits exceeded 4,600 cases. Early 2024 data from industry sources, including UsableNet, suggests this trend is shifting, with a slight decline in overall cases but a notable rise in lawsuits targeting small businesses. Over 66% of cases now involve companies with revenues under $25 million, particularly in industries such as e-commerce, food services, and education, where websites with complex functionalities face greater scrutiny.
