Safari app in iOS 26: Rita’s iDevice advice for March 2, 2026

In iOS 26, the Safari app offers three different view layouts for the tab toolbar: Compact, Bottom, and Top. These views determine the placement and style of the address bar and navigation buttons in Safari.
Compact View: The default minimalist design places the URL bar at the bottom, flanked by fewer visible buttons. Most additional controls are accessed via a three-dot menu, making the interface less cluttered and more screen space available for content.

Bottom View: This layout also puts the address bar and main toolbar at the bottom of the screen, but retains more visible navigation buttons, similar to the layout used in earlier iOS versions. Features like the Share, Bookmarks, and Tabs buttons are always visible, providing direct access without using a menu.

Top View: This classic layout keeps the address bar fixed at the top of the screen, with navigation controls located at the bottom. It is the most traditional option, familiar to users from older Safari versions, and is favored by those who prefer a non-minimalist UI.

These options can be changed in the Settings app under Safari > Tabs, allowing users to choose the view that best suits their browsing style.

Adding a website to your Home Screen allows you to open the web site, just as you would open an app.
You will be able to quickly open your favorite web site right from the Home screen without having to open Safari or type in the URL..
Note: When running VoiceOver, perform a one finger double tap gesture, when the directions say to tap on an item.

Open the website in Safari, and tap the Share icon at the bottom of your screen. Note: the Share icon in most apps will appear as a rectangle with an up-pointing arrow, or three dots. Voiceover users will typically hear the word, “Share”.
Tap Add to Home Screen.
Name the icon, and tap Add in the top right corner.
The website will appear like any other app icon on your Home Screen.

=========
You can add websites to your home screen just like apps.
1. In Safari, go to the website you want to add to your Home Screen. It could be for anything. Sports scores, a Dashboard for a tool you use, any website should work.
2. Tap or double-tap the share button on the bottom bar. You can flick to this with VoiceOver if needed.
3. Flick or scroll down until you find “add to Home Screen”.
4. Select this option, and if you need to change the name. This is what will show on the Home Screen, or what will be read by VoiceOver.
5. Once you’re set, tap or double tap Add in the top right corner.
6. You’ll now be back on the Home Screen, where you’ll find your shortcut alongside the other apps.
