Hello. Especially for meet like ground beef, it is important to brown them first. If they don’t heat up fast enough bacteria can be a problem. A really good book that I have found is called not your mothers slow cooker cookbook. I believe it is available from NLS and is also on Book share. It has some really good instructions for a crockpot that I ended up buying that is programmable. It also gives a lot of good exclamations for how to make the most of your slow cooker.
