[Small-Appliance-Cooking] using the microwave for steming vegetables other items I do

I changed the subject line, and I do wish others would do the same so that if you aren’t talking about meats in the microwave or you have another comment it helps if you change the subject line.

I found a three piece hard plastic steamer for the microwave so long ago. The bottom piece has a small raised edge that you probably couldn’t put more than half a cup of water inside. So this water compartment I just put the tap on and gentley let it run for maybe 2 or 3 seconds, there is probably less than a quarter cup in that part. Then another round part that has holes in the bottom, and it can hold two buntches, good size, of broccolitake just the upper part in flower-ettes. or one of those bundles of asparagus. The top is about the same size as the bottom. But it has one slit on top, to let out some steam.

For a lot that would fill the steamer, With the microwave on high, I might put the time to 4 minutes maximum. Trick is to let it sit for 5 minutes while you do other things to finish your meal.

I also use the microwave to cook eggs, melt butter or get brown sugar back to being soft by giving it a minute, check it and keep doing more in small times, it works well. I heat buns and old baked items that freshens them up.
A must have is the cover to put over items with vents, it keeps things moist. If food is dry, you over-cooked it and without a cover.

Fish I have one recipe for cod shrimp and asparigus with a mix of plain yogurt and mayonnaise mix with spices, takes about ten minutes to cook but, don’t give that secret away, it tastes like you really went to a lot of trouble.

I don’t like roasting meats, I have tried, or baking. But there is one very interesting type of cake I will share right now.

Mix together one package of angel food cake mix, the one envelope kind, with a regular cake mix, any flavor. Mix that together and keep it in a tightly covered container.

The cake is called, one, two, three. You use a glass, maybe a two cup size, the one I like using is a wide top juice glass, not those narrow juice glasses.
In this glass put three table spoons of the mix, add six table spoons of water, mix together well, microwave for three minutes on high.

So one part cake mix above, two parts water and cook for three minutes. Don’t cover.

I have added a small hand-full of bluebarries, it works fine, just put them in and mix it up before cooking.

Now, when it sits for a few minutes the cake should spring back a little. All microwaves are different, so if not sure it feels done give it another 30 seconds or so and let stand and check. Once you try this a few times you will know what your microwave needs to be set on for time. It has a little sponge cake texture, but not as light as an angel food cake.

I tried dessert bowls but I think it needs the high sides, for some reason.

I then like putting any type of yogurt on top before serving.

Now you have your dessert in a nice glass, and WOW, how did you do that?
Finally chopped nuts on top works well also.

I only use my microwave to warm things. I really don't like to cook food in it.

A friend of mine made a large turkey in her microwave. I really expected it to be try, but it was great. There wasn't any left at the end of dinner.

I know how to cook just fine. You wouldn't starve if you came to my house.
In that last email, I left out three words. I was trying to say I hadn't cooked other kinds of meat in the microwave except chopmeat and hotdogs.
Not that I hadn't cooked other kinds of meat at all. Pam.

Oh my dear, if we lived in the same state I would teach you how to cook.
I had a friend in Denver who wanted to cook her own roast.
So we got a roast potatoes and carets.
We put it all together and timed it.
She was so proud from that time on she always did a roast.
Now you can find a roast kit in the store, where it does well in the crock pot and oven.
The crock pot will cook your meal just fine.
