You should be able to plug it into a surge protector.  You probably need a new microwave, and maybe a better surge protector.  Pam.

I wasn’t aware of this. I have been plugging microwaves into serge protectors for ears. I guess this will force me into buying a new microwave being that the panel on this 1 doesn’t even work.   The microwave should not be plugged into a surge protector.  the microwave draws too much power .
