Well, cooking at home is healthier so this is a good change you're making. 
I hope you get a new girl friend or companion to live with.  Its just more 
fun to live with someone in my opinion.  I hope the situation works for you.

Well there are stationary bikes that monitor your heart rate by placing your 
hands on sensors.  No they are not accessible.  Do you have a little vision 
to read the screen?  If not you miss the heart reading and distance 
traveled.
There are talking heart rate monitors but I heard from more than one person 
they are inaccurate.  Try and count your pulse mannually on your wrist for 
ten seconds and multiply by 6 to get  a minute.

What you do to workout depends on your resources.  Do you workout at a gym? 
If so you might be able to get some free advice from a personal trainer on 
workout intensity and duration.  Most gyms give you a session or two free to 
get advice.
