(Newark, Delaware) The sport of Goalball was invented in 1946 as a way to
keep blinded World War II veterans physically active and engaged in a team
effort. Since that time, Goalball has evolved into the premier sport for
athletes who are blind and visually impaired of all ages around the world.
It's fast paced, physically challenging and exciting for participants and
spectators alike.

This weekend, teams from across the nation will battle it out on goalball
courts in the University of Delaware Carpenter Sports Building, site of the
United States Association of Blind Athlete's 2010 National Goalball
Championship Tournament, hoping to walk away as the 2010 men's and women's
national goalball champions. This tournament culminates a series of three
regional tournaments held earlier this year in Kalamazoo, MI, Westmont, NJ,
Salt Lake City, UT. This year's tournament is hosted by the Blind Sports
Organization of Springfield, PA: http://www.blindsports.org
<http://www.blindsports.org/> .

Among participants will be members of the United States Men's and Women's
National Goalball teams playing with their respective club teams. Besides
competing for National goalball titles this weekend, the tournament will
also serve their final competition before the National teams compete in the
International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) 2010 World Goalball
Championships to be held in Manchester, England later this month. The IBSA
World Goalball Championships is one of three opportunities the National
teams will have to qualify for the 2012 London Paralympic Games.

On June 6, the United States Association of Blind Athletes will induct the
coach and members of the 1984 Men's Paralympic Goalball team, Paralympic
gold medalists, into the inaugural class of the United States Association of
Blind Athlete's Hall of Fame.

Seeded first at the 1984 summer Paralympic games, but suffering some
unexpected losses early in the tournament, the U.S. team made a remarkable
comeback from the loser's bracket beating Egypt for the Paralympic gold
medal.

"We went in there seeded first, every team gunning for us. They managed to
beat us, but not by much. The team wouldn't go down without a fight," said
Coach Stephen Kearney. "A fight is what we gave them too. It is a rare thing
to lose one of your first games and come back to win gold, but we did it."

Members of the 1984 Paralympic Goalball Team to be inducted team include:

Coach Stephen Kearney (Muskogee, OK)
John Cutliff (Muskogee, OK)
Winford Haynes (Austin, TX)
Reni Jackson (Louisville, KY)
George Morris (St Louis, MO)
James Neppl (Rock Island, IL)
Kevin Szott (Milbern, NJ)

impaired. Due to its ever growing popularity it will be broadcast live
