Hello LM,
Oh I do understand especially the part about dieting bringing up emotional
baggage.
When my mother in law was growing up it was the depression and there were
eight kids in her family. They were always hungry. When she was an adult
she got up to 225 pounds and she developed diabetes. Any attempts to died
failed because the minute she got hungry it reminded her of when she was
growing up. She had a hernia in her diaphragm and had it closed last year.
As a result she can't eat large pieces or food or any volume. Now she
weighs 134 pounds and she is almost off insulin. The hermia actually saved
her life.
Meanwhile, I am the one who gained 40 pounds from the junk food. I was
active but moving to a dead end street in Florida where it is hot so much
kept me in the house. I'll warn you about menopause too, you'll put on 20
pounds over night. Oh it is so easy to gain and so hard to loose.
We used to have ice cream every evening at about 8. Then we gave it up
completely to lose weight. Now we have ice cream but only every few days or
so so it isn't a daily habit. I think habits are one problem and portion
size is the other.
I have a friend who moved to the US from China. I asked her what her first
impression of the US was expcepting her to talk about the freedoms etc. she
said the first thing that struck her was our portion size!!!
