Hi Audrey,
Its good that you sought out some one on one for the weights.  Done 
correctly some weight training to suppliment your rowind will be a huge 
plus.  However done wrong could be very harmful.  Only once a week is enough 
to make a big difference provided you work your butt off in that one 
workout.  When it comes to using the weights for sports specific training 
most strength coaches would say to only put 20% of your time into the 
supplimentel work weather it be weights streching or whatever and 80% of 
your time into your sport.
Mike is spot on with his training suggestions.  The only thing I might add 
would be to do some balance work and with the weights concentrate on big 
movements that involve sevral major muscle groups.  Stay away from the 
machines and stick to barbells, dumbells and kettlebells as they will help 
work those rowing muscles as a unit.
