TNABA 4th Annual Adaptive Sports Conference for the Blind
TNABA is proud to announce our fourth annual adaptive sports
conference and Paralympic experience. This amazing event will take place on
Saturday October 5th on the beautiful campus of the TN School for the Blind
@ 115 Stewarts Ferry Pike Donnelson, TN 37214. We will kick off registration
at 7:30am to 8am and the conference will last from 8am to 4pm. The TNABA
Adaptive Sports Conference is unlike any conference you have ever attended
before. At this unique event you will experience different adaptive sports
and recreational activities through the eyes of someone totally blind. If
you have attended in the past your expectations will certainly not be let
down for this one.
This year's conference is bigger and better than before as we have increased
to 6 different break- out sessions to give you more opportunities to
experience over 15 wonderful activities to choose from throughout the day.
Sessions will include; tandem cycling, bowling, archery, goalball, run/walk
with a guide, ballroom dancing, exercise and fitness classes, water
aerobics, nutrition classes and many more activities.
During lunch former NFL San Francisco 49er defensive nose tackle Will Santi
will speak on his experiences in sports and working with adaptive athletes
through the Achilles Nashville Run, Walk, Roll program. Another special
guest speaker for the day will be David Metter, National Blind Golf
Champion, as he talks about his experiences as a blind golfer. You can get a
full schedule, list of sessions, and an overview of each session on our
website @ www.tnaba.org. And if you need Over night accomadations we have
that available as well. Remember to keep checking back as more sessions will
be added in the weeks to come.
The mission of the Tennessee Association of Blind Athletes is to improve the
overall lives of people that are blind and visually impaired through sports
and recreational activities. These opportunities promote good social skills,
healthy life styles, and prepare these individuals for productive lives
within our community. Each and every day thousands of blind Tennesseans
struggle with coping with their blindness, finding resources to get out and
be active, and overcoming many health problems such as; obesity, high blood
pressure, diabetes, and other life threatening illnesses. You will learn
tools and resources to overcome these obstacles and give hope to those that
need it most.
This conference is perfect for physical education teachers, vision teachers,
PT and OT, veteran administration, vocational rehabilitation professionals,
and students interested in going into these fields, and anyone interested in
learning more about creating opportunities for those living without sight.
Also, TNABA has applied for certification to offer AER CEU credits during
this event giving more of a reason for you to attend this life changing
experience.
We hope you will consider joining us for an exciting day full of fun. You
can register for the conference and learn more about our wonderful
organization at www.tnaba.org. Together we can make a difference in giving a
person with blindness the opportunity to live life through adventure.
