SMYRNA - Georgia Blind Sports Association announces the 2015 Goalball
National Championships will be held at Whitefield Academy in Smyrna,
Georgia June 18 - 20, 2015.

Goalball is a globally competitive sport for visually impaired athletes.
The ball has bells in it that allow the blindfolded athletes to locate it
as it is thrown down the court and prevent it from crossing their goal line.

The goalball national championships are held annually in different cities
across the U.S. and are governed by the United States Association for Blind
Athletes (USABA) of Colorado Springs. This is the first time the
championship tournament will be held in Georgia.

“Georgia Blind Sports Association has been working to bring the national
championship tournament to Georgia for years and we’re honored to be
selected. It’s going to bring much needed exposure to blind sports in the
state,” Hal Simpson, executive director of GBSA said.

The Atlanta Force, coached by Simpson won the national title in 2011 and
has been in the championship game twice in the past 5 years never finishing
lower than fourth in that time period.
