Overhead squats are very challenging and you would not soon forget them.
You hold a light bar at arms length overhead.  Not with a pressing grip but
a wider grip like Olympic lifters use for the snatch if you have ever seen
that. Then you simply squat down as low as possible.  Most people strive to
get their rear end near their ankles then you simply stand back up. The
thing is you have to keep perfect posture and total control of the bar or
you will end up on your butt on the ground. They are a fantastic movement
for total body strength and control

First Great job!!!
I am super impressed that you can do overhead squats!  Even with just the
PVC that's impressive. They are a balance challenge for sure.
It sounds like you are in a good facility with good coaches and of course
having Joe there along side you just makes it that much more fun I would
think.
I wish my wife shared my interest in fitness.

Anyone's fitness journey is just that--a journey. I am overweight and Joe
just got me going to CrossFit. I scale everything. I can't do pull ups, so I
do ring rows. I surely can't do Bulgarian Split Squats, so I do lunges
(which I still can't do well!). I'm working toward doing regular back
squats. I can only use the bar for front squats and overhead squats, and
only just started doing that! I used a PVC pipe bar at first! I've been
going for a month and already seeing improvement, but I have a looooonnngg
way to go to be even remotely good. And that's okay. I'm up and moving and
putting on muscle and losing fat. The coaches are patient and supportive.
Find a fitness you like and go for it!
