Hello Jessica,

Sorry for the short notice but I am presently Acting President of the NFB Gwinnett Family Chapter in the Atlanta, Georgia metro area and although I have been a member of NFB and have held a number of state and local positions in NFB for about 18 years , I need your help getting this message out to your Sports & Recreation Division Members, please.

A couple of years ago, I located to Lawrenceville, Georgia in the Gwinnett County area and the Gwinnett Family Chapter is very new and I am trying to keep it going with just a very few members whom are also fairly new to blindness and are amazed at what blind people are still able to do without sight.

Whenever we are not able to hold monthly meeting, I try to hold a conference call meeting with a topic I hope will encourage the chapter members and entice the blind community in participating on the call and getting the word out about the chapter.

I have just return from vacation and before I left I put the message out that our conference call would be about the following topic on this Monday, May 8, 2017 from 7pm – 8pm:

Join the NFB Gwinnett Family Chapter for this open discussion, the topic will be, “embrace Recreation & Social Involvement in Your Community”, Blindness is not what holds you back, don’t let others   perceive your disability as an incapability.

Jessica, I am needing your assistance in reaching out to NFB Members in the Sports & Recreation Division that would be willing to participate in this conference call and talk briefly about their following experiences:

The sports/recreation they participate in

-        Is it with sighted or blind participants

-        Is there any adaptation needed and if so what type.

-        If participating with sighted people, if they experienced any misconceptions or prejudice because of their blindness and how they handled the situation.

I hope that you can put me in touch with members from a variety of sports and recreation activities such as swimming, skiing, cycling, goal ball, golf, etc.…

I would like that any interested members of the division would RSVP to me so that I can put them on the agenda and get a little information from them by e-mail or phone call before the conference call.

If anyone is interested, please have them to contact me by e-mail or phone and I will send them the conference call phone number.
