[Sportsandrec] NFBSR Website, Why Is This Information Not There?

Hello Ashley and everyone,
The kind of information you shared with the list needs to be added
to: http://nfbsportsandrec.org/
While there are links to Websites of some of the companies NFBSR
Board Members own or have a connection with the site is wantingly devoid of
the resources many of us are seeking to pursue the sports or recreation
activity of our choice.
Many of us attended summer camp for years. Why isn't there a
comprehensive list of summer camps for the blind on the NFBSR Website? This
is information blind individuals as well as parents of blind children and
blindness professionals would appreciate having so they can enroll or refer
blind children, youth, and adults to the program that will best meet their
needs such as a camp for blind horse back riders.
Likewise there aren't any links to any of the blind golfer
organizations I mentioned previously. And what about Goalball teams and
organizations, USABA, Blind Bowling Ggroups, name any sport or recreation
activity chances are there's a group of blind athletes doing it and have
created anorganization for blind persons wishing to participate in such
activities.
Once we get something going with prospective blind golfers in our
area we'll be glad to share it with the group but it needs to be added to
the division Website so the next blind San Antonian wanting to take up
golfwill have a place where they can find information about local golf
instructors who have had experience working with blind players and to help
grow the network of such instructors making the sport open to more blind
golf enthusiasts.
Likewise if Jody still needs to find a horse back riding camp she
could go to the NFB Sports and Recreation Website and locate such a camp in
her area that would meet her needs.
I went through this same garbage with NAGDU when I needed some
assistance to find resources for covering some guide dog expenses. All I got
was the same old tired admonition that it's our responsibility to find ways
to cover these expenses. To which I said "Exactly!" I went on to tell them
that it would be helpful if their Website had listings of various dogfood
providers, veterinary facilities and other dog-related concerns that
provided either free or reduced costs for guide and service dogs. Division
members and others wanting to add contributions of such resources in their
areas could submit them to grow the database to give guide dog users a
starting place to find the services they need at a cost they can handle.
This in no way relieves the guide dog user of their responsibility to cover
the cost of their dog's care. It only points them to resources in their home
area that may be able to help. It's then their responsibility to determine
which local resource will best meet their needs.
Likewise if the NFBSR Website included a similar listing for various sports
organizations and camps for the blind those wishing to pursue such
activities can search the Website for resources in their area or if they
know of such a resource that isn't listed they could submit it for inclusion
creating an easier road for the next blind person wishing to pursue that
particular sport or recreational activity. It's our hope that this division
will begin creating such a resource list on its Website that will be of
benefit to all blind persons wishing to participate in a wide variety of
such activities.

Dear Jodi,
This is a great question. Its rare to meet a low vision horse back rider. I
am more into indoor recreatrion and mainly just work out.
However, I have a few ideas.
What age of campers and what preferred location?
These are ideas but they offer all types of outdoor activities. That said,
you may enjoy it and IMO worth looking into.
1. Beacon Lodge camp in PA; camps for all ages. A few specific to the blind
and vi popu population.

2. Highbrook lodge
in Cleveland Ohio
