The city bus glided along the city street, making its way toward the social security office. Jacqueline stared out of the window, with her arms folded across her chest.

She knew what was being asked of her, and she had resolved to do her duty by her country. She thought about when she informed Barbra of her decision to Join the United States army, Barbra was behind her 100 percent.

"Barbra, I've decided to join the Army." Jacqueline said with resolve in her voice.
"Jacqueline, I've told you, that if you were to attend college, or Join the Military, that I'd stand behind you 100 percent." Barbra Stockton her opted mother said looking at Jacqueline with love.

However, Kay and David fox, despised Jacqueline Sutton because she always went against the grain. She was what people referred to as a maverick. She also exposed the Foxes hypocrisy, and so they detested her even more. However, the straw that broke the camel's back, was when the Foxes learned of Jacqueline and Luis's relationship and ever since then, the Foxes were trying to split them up, because they felt Luis needed a Christian woman and not some one such as Jacqueline. However, even people in church, were beginning to notice that Jacqueline and Luis were together, and they supported it, because they knew of Jacqueline's salvation and that Jacqueline just didn't talk the talk, she walked the walk, and the foxes were envious of this quality of Jacqueline's. Just the vary thought of the Foxes Meddling in their relationship made Jacqueline's blood boil. Even Luis himself was supportive of her decision to join the Army. Jacqueline thought of the day at the river where she and Luis had their last conversation before he went to Boston, to see his friend Virgil, who was dying of Cancer. Virgil and Luis had been friends since the first grade, and just the thought of loosing his best friend hurt Luis vary deeply. He felt he could confide in Jacqueline, and so he planned this pick nick so he could clear his mind.
"How do you like it?" Luis asked opening Jacqueline's car door.
"It's beautiful this time of year. That's what I've heard, and their right." Jacqueline said in amazement looking out over the river.
"I'll get the food baby." Luis said reaching into the trunk.
"Luis, How long are you staying in Boston?" Jacqueline asked.
"I told Virgil I'd stay for two weeks.
Luis put his arm around Jacqueline, and began weeping uncontrollably. Jacqueline softly patted Luis on the shoulder, and immediately he calmed down.
"You're allot tougher than I am." Luis said to Jacqueline, as she hugged him tighter.
"Luis, I know you're hurting. stop trying to hide It, if you do, its only going to get worse babe. Just because Kay and David never allowed you to show any type of emotion. Luis. You're a grown man. your not a child any more! You need to let your feelings come out sweetheart." Jacqueline's words felt like Keys unlocking the chains which had bound him for so many years.
"Jacqueline," Luis sniffled. He continued, "I'm afraid. Of. Oh God! I'm afraid of what I'm going to see when I get to Boston!" Jacqueline knew she had to tell Luis of her own experience.
"Luis, I totally understand how you feel. When it comes to the not knowing. It was one of the most difficult things I've ever had to face in my entire life. One day, Barbra would be fine, and the next. You just never knew from one day to the next." Jacqueline's voice cracked as she tiered up.
"You're going to be in Boston for two weeks. Right?" Jacqueline asked walking over to a pick nick table and sitting down.
"Yes. Why?" Luis asked thinking their was something bothering Jacqueline.
"Just wondering that's all." Jacqueline said yawning.
"Tired?" Luis asked sitting his drink down.
"Luis. You say you love me, and you know that I love you. But if your grandparents don't stop interfering in our affairs." Jacqueline was interrupted.
"What is going on this time?" Luis said fed up.
"Luis, Kay is calling the house constantly, wanting to know about Lisa, when she has been told that Lisa is no longer her concern. And to make matters worse, she's leaving threatening Messages on my cell phone!" Luis could tell Jacqueline was upset.
"I will deffinently let Kay Fox know she is not to contact you in any way." Luis said reassuringly, as he and Jacqueline made their way back to the car.
"If I marry you, they will not be apart of the ceremony, that's for sure!" Jacqueline said getting in on the passenger side.
"Isn't that the truth?" Luis said getting in and starting the car.

"And just what do you two think you're doing?" Kay said, as she got out of a silver van.

"I'm 24, years old Grandma. Please stay out of this." Luis told his grandmother softly, but firmly.

"Don't you ever, ever, tell me that again." Kay shot back walking towards them.

"Grandma, I have my own apartment, I am on my own. Jacqueline and I love each other, and there is nothing you can do to change that!" Luis said shouting.

"Luis, I realize you're upset, but that is still your grandmother." Jacqueline admonished.

"I forbid you from seeing our grandson!" Kay spat.

Kay opened Jacqueline's door, and got into her face.

"You are not going to ruin my grandson's life!" Kay's said shaking her finger in Jacqueline's face.

"Mrs. Fox? Leave them alone!" a man in a dark blue sweat shirt shouted. As Kay headed toward her van, Jacqueline shut the door.

"Thanks Paul," Luis said as he drove away.

Jacqueline wondered how Luis was doing. She knew she forgot to call him last night, due to Lisa being sick. She resolved to call him, when she returned home from running errands. A soft voice from the seat in front of her jolted her out of her thoughts.

"Jacqueline, do you really have to.?" Lisa asked, twisting around in her seat to look at Jacqueline.

"Lisa, don't ask Jacqueline that again!" Kay shouted, as the bus stopped near the social security office and people started to get off.

Lisa slouched in her seat to avoid Kay's angry and intimidating gaze. It felt as though Kay's blazing eyes were boring into her soul. Jacqueline, however, returned Kay's stare unflinchingly. She wasn't about to be intimidated by this obnoxious person.

Kay said angrily, "Lisa, look at me when I'm talking to you! Don't ask Jacqueline that again!"

"Jacqueline said I could ask her anything," Lisa retorted, though she looked quite unnerved.

"It's not going to do you any good, to argue with Kay. You need to just ignore her," Jacqueline whispered to Lisa, as they got up from their seats.

"Jacqueline, why are we here?" asked Lisa.

"If you were still living in my foster home, you would not be asking that question!" Kay spat at Lisa.

"Kay, I'm glad Lisa's still not living with you, because she would be deprived of a normal life. Who in their right mind won't allow a child to see her dying mother? And all because you didn't approve of her lifestyle. that's the reason you didn't allow Lisa to see her own mother, the woman who gave birth to her. You disapproved because she wasn't a Christian! Just leave Lisa alone! She isn't your responsibility. she's mine!" Jacqueline said firmly, as she and Lisa began making their way toward the front of the bus.

"Lisa, I need to take care of some things, and after I'm done here, I'll take you to Dairy Queen, but you are going to have to be on your best behavior, alright?" Jacqueline murmured, putting her arm around Lisa's shoulder.

"Yes ma'am," Lisa said, smiling.
"Oh, so you're going to reward her for being outright rude to me?" Kay asked, grabbing Jacqueline roughly by the shoulder.

Jacqueline looked directly at Kay and forcefully threw off her hand. "Kay! This does not concern you," she said, stepping back.
"I will talk to Barbra!" Kay threatened, as she stepped off the bus.
As Jacqueline helped Lisa off the bus, she said, "Barbra has been dead for a couple of weeks now. Kay, please allow me to deal with Lisa. I know you're trying to help, but this conversation really isn't about you. I am Lisa's legal guardian and as her legal guardian I am going to ask you to please stay out of our affairs." Jacqueline's voice was calm and resolute. People passing by were shooting glances at them, as if wondering at the altercation between the calm and composed girl and the seemingly rather obnoxious older woman.
Jacqueline had known it might come to this when she promised to care for Lisa. Lisa had cerebral palsy, and someone had to be her caregiver 24 hours a day. Lisa had had a hard life. Her father had died before she was born, and her mother had died in a car accident six months ago. Things were difficult enough, without Kay trying to mess up her life again Her thoughts drifted to Barbra's death, and how the dying woman could barely take enough breath to ask Jacqueline for a drink of water.

Barbra Stockton lay on her deathbed. It had been a hard night. The morphine drip wasn't working, and to see Barbra in pain hurt Jacqueline very deeply.

"Jacqueline. please bring me a glass of water. please. please." Barbra was struggling to draw enough breath to complete the sentence.

"Jacqueline, I know you'll take good care of Lisa. Please. don't let Kay.," Barbra" Barbra gasped, the tears overflowing her eyes. "Kay will try to take Lisa away from you Jacqueline," Barbra continued in a whisper. "It'll be up to you, not Kay or anyone else, to decide the appropriate time for Lisa to know about the circumstances concerning her birth." Jacqueline knew Barbra was referring to the fact that Courtney, Lisa's birth mother, had, on Kay's advice, gone to a local abortion clinic .

"Kay isn't here Barbra. just Jacqueline and Lisa," the hospice nurse said softly. Barbra may or may not have heard her. Moments later, she died.

Kay's enraged tone brought Jacqueline back to the present.

"I am seventy years old! How dare you disrespect me?" Kay shouted.
"Kay, I'm not trying to disrespect you in anyway." Jacqueline said gently.

"You've always had a problem with authority!" Kay spat at Jacqueline.

The city bus slithered along the city street like a snake, making its way toward the social security office. Jacqueline sat near the window of the city bus with her arms folded across her

chest. She knew what was being asked of her, and she had resolved to perform her duty

to her country. A soft voice in front of her seat suddenly brought her back to reality.

"Jacqueline, do you really have to." Lisa asked, turning her head to look at

Jacqueline.

"Lisa, don't ask Jacqueline that again!" Kay shouted, as the bus stopped near the social

Security office and people began disembarking.

Lisa slouched in her seat, in order to avoid Kay's angry and intimidating gaze. It felt to Lisa ias thoughf Kay was were boring into her soul., and this is what made it so intimidating, however, Jacqueline, however, sat looking right at Kayreturned Kay's stare without flinching. It was clear to everybody on this bus this girlShe wasn't about to be intimidated by such an obnoxious person. Kay said in an angry voice, "Lisa, look at me when I'm talking to you. . Don't ask Jacqueline that again!"

"Kay, Jacqueline said I could ask her anything." Lisa said to Kay, looking intimidated.

"Lisa, it's not going to do you any good, to argue with Kay. You need to just ignore her." Jacqueline said softly to Lisa as they got up from there seats.

"Jacqueline, why are we here?" Lisa asked interested.

"Lisa, if you were still living in my foster home you would not be asking that question!" Kay spat at Lisa.

"Kay, I'm glad she's not living in your foster home, because Lisa would be deprived of a normal life! Who in their right mind doesn't allow a child to see their dying mother? All because You didn't approve of her life stile. That's the reason you didn't allow Lisa to see her own mother! The woman who gave birth to her. all because she wasn't a Christian! Leave Lisa alone! She isn't your responsibility. she is Mine!" Jacqueline said firmly, as her and Lisa began making their way toward the front of the bus.

"Lisa, I need to take care of some things, and after I'm done here, I'll take you to Derry queen, but you are going to have to be on your best behavior. Alright." Jacqueline said softly putting her arm around Lisa's shoulder.

"Yes Mam," Lisa said smiling.

"Oh so you're going to reward her for being out right rude to me?" Kay askedputting her hand on Jacqueline's shoulder..

Jacqueline looked directly at Kay and sternly admonished her. She forcfuly removed Kay's hand from her shoulder."Kay! This

does not concern you." Jacqueline took three steps back.

"I will talk to Barbra!" Kay said menacingly steping off of the bus.

"Kay," Jacqueline said, as she helped Lisa off the bus, "Barbra has been dead for

a couple of weeks now." She continued. "Kay, please allow me to deal with Lisa. I know

you're trying to help, but this conversation really doesn't pertain to you. I am Lisa's legal

Guardian, and as her legal guardian, I am going to have to ask you to please stay out of our conversation." Jacqueline said calmly. People were beginning to wonder how this girl could still remain calm and reserved, when confronted by such an obnoxious person. Jacqueline had known, it might come to this, when she promised to care for Lisa. Lisa was mentally challenged, and some one would need to be her care giver 24 hours a day. She thought of the day Barbra dyed, and how she could barely take the breath in order to ask Jacqueline for a drink of water.

Barbra Stockton lay on her death bed. It had been a hard night, her morphine drip wasn't working, and to see Barbra in pain hurt Jacqueline vary deeply. "Jacqueline. please bring me a glass of water. Please!" Barbra could hardly take in the breath in order to complete the sentence.

"Jacqueline I know you'll take good care of Lisa. Please. don't Kay!" Barbra said crying.

"Kay isn't here Barbra. its Jacqueline and Lisa." Said the hospice nurse softly. Then a moment later, Barbra Stockton dyed.

Now, this woman was trying to mess up Lisa's life again, and Jacqueline wouldn't stand for it. Lisa had already had a hard life. Her father had dyed before she was born, and her mother had dyed in a car accident six months prier to the present time.

"I am seventy years old! How dare you disrespect me?" Kay shouted, enraged.

"Kay, I'm not trying to disrespect you in any way." Jacqueline said in a soft,

respectful tone.

"Jacqueline, you've always had a problem with authority!" Kay spat at Jacqueline.

"You know what Kay? I really don't have time to stand here and argue with you. pick on somebody your own size! You get your pleasure out of bullying Lisa, just to get to me, and it's going to come to an end right now." A tinge of anger slid across Jacqueline's face, now Kay was the one feeling intimidated.

"Talk to the hand, but the hand won't understand!" Said a teenager riding with his father to the airport.

"Sir you need to control your son's filthy mouth, and young man, don't you ever! Ever! Disrespect." Kay was interrupted.

"Kay, please not today!" Said an elderly man sitting in the back of the bus. Jacqueline recognized him as Robert Cline, the Sunday School superintendent at Gates of heaven Baptist church.

"Robert, don't tell me not today sir!" Kay said in a snotty tone of voice, with her hand still on the railing.

"Well, Kay I'm putting you on notice you will not be teaching Fourth grade girls Sunday school, Jacqueline Sutton, will be taking over that particular class!" Mr. Cline said smiling at Jacqueline.

"When do I start teaching?" Jacqueline asked surprised.

"This coming Sunday. and since Lisa is in the fourth grade, you'll be her teacher, until promotion Sunday. Usually, people sign up, in order to be a Sunday school teacher, but I picked you, due to your Christian character, not just how you act in church, but my decision was also based on how you act in the community, and that is why I picked you." Mr. Cline said softly walking toward Jacqueline.

"I've taught that class for years! How dare you! Jacqueline is disrespectful, and rude. She is going with my grandson Luis." Kay was interrupted.

"Kay, I've seen Jacqueline both in church, and in the community, and You have a nasty attitude, and an extremely bad drinking problem and that is why I selected Jacqueline over you! She didn't seek this teaching position for her own personal gain unlike you. Jacqueline has earned this position!" Mr. Cline said angrily, looking at Kay.
"Kay has a drinking problem?" Lisa asked shocked.
"I am an adult. You do as I say, and not as I do!" Kay shouted at Lisa.

"Well, David will hear about the way I've been over looked." Mr. Cline walked up to Kay, and said challenging Kay, "Your husband, isn't even the senior pastor, It's the senior pastor's decision also. He to has seen Jacqueline's moral character, and he also feels she's ready, to be a Sunday school teacher!"

"Pastor Raulerson is still new. he has only been here for a year!" Kay shot back.

"Kay, Jacqueline isn't anything like you. When she substituted for Becky stallworth, the parents said they whished that Jacqueline, would be in the nursery more often. However, Last week, when Jacqueline was sick, and pastor Raulerson asked you to fill in for her you did, and all of the parents with one voice said they never again want you to be in the nursery, due to you're constant yelling, and putting down of the children in front of their parents! You are a hypocrite Kay Fox!" Said Mr. Cline Helping a disabled lady off of the bus.
"She tells us that drinking is bad, but she does it, why should kids listen to her?" Lisa asked
"Lisa, It's important for us to tell others the gospel, but we have to also live it as well. You think that's a good explanation Jacqueline?" Mr. Cline asked.
"Yes," Jacqueline said smiling.
"That's interesting you bring that up Mr. Cline, because here is a letter I just got in the mail yesterday." Jacqueline handed the letter to Mr. Cline.
"You never ever grab a child by their arm!" Mr. Cline shouted, sitting Kay forcefully into a seat.

"Lady, Get off of my bus now!" The driver said fed up with Kay's antics.

"Jacqueline, I love you. But do you have to go? When are you leaving?"

"Lisa, we'll talk about it later alright." Jacqueline said softly as they began walking away from the bus.
"Jacqueline Lisa is a child, and children should not be privy to that type of thing!" Kay interjected.
"Lisa, don't pay her any attention, just ignore her." Jacqueline admonished Lisa as they continued walking.

""""Jacqueline, what if Kay.."""" Lisa" Lisa asked softly,

squeezing Jacqueline''s hand.
Jacqueline stopped near a bench, and sitting down, pulled Lisa to her so that she could sit down next to her They sat for what seemed an eternity, as Jacqueline contemplated what she was going to tell Lisa concerning the circumstances surrounding her birth.

""""Lisa, Kay isn't the person she let's on. Ten years ago, when your mother came to her, and told her she was pregnant, Kay advised your mother to get an abortion, and so because your mother respected Kay, because she was a ministers wife, she took Kay's advice, and allowed Kay to drive her to the abortion clinic. When they arrived at the clinic though, and the procedure was explained to your mother, she changed her mind, and from what the testimony from the trail says, Kay went into a violent rage, and insisted your mother have the abortion. At this time, your mother was having contractions, and so they were forced to deliver you. When they finished delivering you they thought you were still born, so they threw you into a trash can. However, the nurse nearest to the trash can heard a faint cry, and she realized that you weren't still born; the cord had been rapped around your neck. Lisa, your mother loved you vary much, and I know she'd be vary proud of how well your doing in school." Lisa couldn't believe her mother could give in to such a bad person like Kay.
"So that's why Mom was always mad? Every time Kay would talk to me." Kay had been listening the entire time. Kay walked up to the both of them and slapped Jacqueline in the face.
"That was something that should have been left well enough alone! You've crossed the line Jacqueline Sutton, and this time, there is no turning back!" Kay's five foot seven frame shook violently as she spoke.
"Kay, you've been drinking again haven't you. I'm not going to sit by and let Lisa see this! Jacqueline was extremely angry, though she wanted to try and keep her calm so as not to upset Lisa. Kay socked away, as Jacqueline rapped Lisa in a material huge.
"Jacqueline, are you OK?" Lisa cried. Jacqueline knew things were escalating between herself and Kay, and she didn't want for Lisa to see her upset. So Jacqueline took Lisa across the street to a pay phone and Jacqueline phoned Luis. "Luis, Kay has been drinking again, and it's got Lisa upset because I've just been slapped in the face by her." Luis could hear the soft soothing voice he knew so well, but Luis could tell the stress was building when Jacqueline exhaled and said, "I am tired of this Luis. I've had it!" Jacqueline said angrily. Luis understood full well what Jacqueline was going through. Jacqueline heard something, or some behind her, and when she turned around, she saw Kay standing their. Kay grabbed Lisa by the arm, and began walking back toward the social security office.
"Lisa, You're living with me, and that's final! Do you understand me young lady?" Kay said looking Lisa square in the face. Jacqueline left the phone dangling as she ran after Kay, catching up to them; she forcefully wrestled Kay to the ground. "The didn't train me to be an MP for nothing Kay."
"What's that?" Kay asked.
"Military police," Jacqueline said letting Kay whenup.
"Jacqueline, then what happened?" Lisa asked five minutes later, standing in line.
"When Barbra adopted you, you became my

Adoptedadopted sister. When Barbra found out she wasn''t going to live much longer,

   she

arranged it so that I''d have sole custody of you."" Jacqueline said in a

maternal tone of

voice.

""So Kay doesndoesn't't like it."""" Jacqueline''s eyes

widened. ""Because I am only nineteen."" Jacqueline said through clenched teeth.

She continued only this time in a firm tone of voice. "Lisa, you don't need to answer Kay every time she says something to you. She is trying to intimidate you.

"Jacqueline, Luis promised he'd take me to the beach." Jacqueline interrupted Lisa.

"Lisa, Luis already told you he'd take both of us on Thursday and."
"Jacqueline don't bring it up again!" Kay shouted at the top of her lungs. Kay continued, "Luis is extremely disrespectful, thanks to you! Ever since he got that theology degree."

"Kay, What's wrong with a degree in theology?" Jacqueline asked Kay as she and Lisa stopped walking.

"David and I don't feel he is fit for the ministry, and the fact you are even in the picture makes Luis even more unfit!" Kay screamed.

"Kay, Why do you hate Jacqueline?" Lisa asked crying.

"Lisa, don't you ever! Ever! Question me again! Do you understand me?"

"Kay, I have asked you nicely, please stop interfering in Lisa's and my business. I am Lisa's legal guardian." Jacqueline said again, with out a hint of disrespect in her voice.

"You have no authority over Lisa!" Kay Spat and the spittle hit Lisa in the face. Jacqueline pulled a document from her purse, and handing it to Kay said firmly, "If you do not stop interjecting yourself into our business, then I will let the courts deal with you!"

"This document means nothing; your name doesn't even appear any where in this document!" Kay handed it back to Jacqueline with a look of deepest loathing on her face.

"Look, Lady, the girl said to mind your own business! What part of mind 'your

own business did you not understand?" said a sixty-five-year-old woman as she passed

Jacqueline and Lisa.

The Sixty-Five-year-old woman turned and looked at Jacqueline. She motioned for Jacqueline to retrieve the document, and Jacqueline did so, and handed it to the woman.

"Lady, I was a judge in mainMaine for over 26, years. The name Jacqueline Sutton does indeed appear in the document! You stay out of this girl's business!"

"Barbra didn't." Kay was interrupted, as
Lisa chimed in, smiling. "Oh, so we're talking to the dead now, Kay, you self-

righteousRighteous hypocrite?"

"Lisa, you should show Kay some respect-even though she might not deserve it,

she is still an adult." Jacqueline said admonishingly, pulling Lisa toward her.

"That's right young Lady, David and I." Kay was interrupted as Jacqueline said authoritatively, "You and David will do nothing!"

Kay, still enraged, grabbed for Lisa's hand, but as she did so, Jacqueline stood to

her full height. "Kay please stop interrupting our conversation. This discussion really does not pertain to you."

Undeterred, Kay grabbed Lisa's cheek. Lisa squirmed. Finally, Jacqueline had had enough. She pulled Kay's hand from Lisa's right cheek and saw the nail marks Kay left behind.

"Kay Look what you've done. Just go! Go!" Jacqueline said irritated.

Kay screeched. "Officer, this lady just assaulted me, and I'd like to have her

arrested!" She was hoping the officer would pity her and come to her aid because she

was a senior citizen, but the officer had seen the whole scene unfold.

"Mrs. Fox, I saw what happened, and this lady had every right to do what she did.

If anyone should be arrested, it's you." He smiled reassuringly at Jacqueline.

She looked calmly at him and said, "I'm being deployed to Iraq. When my tour is

over, I hope to join the police department. I am not going to allow this woman to tarnish

my reputation like this, when she is the one sticking her nose into my business."

"How old are you?" The officer asked.
"Sir, didn't your mother teach you that it is
inappropriate for a man to ask a woman her age?" Kay asked.

"Shut up Kay." Lisa said irritated.
"We don't tell grown up's to shut up Lisa, but Kay
does need to calm down." Jacqueline whispered softly into Lisa's ear.
"I'm Nineteen." Jacqueline looked at the officer, as
If she were the officer's sister.
"You said you're being deployed to Iraq, what branch are you?" the officer asked.
"Be all that you can be in the army!" Lisa sang proudly smiling from ear to ear.
"OK Lisa. ha-ha!" Jacqueline softly chuckled.
"For some one who is Nineteen, you sure know
what you're doing." The officer remarked.
"I wish I had a sister like you growing up." The
officer said looking into Jacqueline's beautiful blue sparkling eyes.
"I take that as a complement." Jacqueline said
Smiling.
"You smell good, what kind of perfume is that?"
"I'm not sure of the name of it, but I'm glad you like it," Jacqueline said smiling.

"I love Jacqueline, because she tells me stories, and

she gives me a hug when I have a bad dream." Lisa said to the officer as she hugged

Jacqueline.

"Children are to be quiet when adults are having a conversation! Do you understand young lady! Do you!" Kay shouted at the top of her lungs, grabbing Lisa by the shirt.

"Mam, Let go of the child Now!" The officer said in a commanding voice.

"Excuse me Sir. You." Jacqueline knew Kay was trying to provoke the Eighteen year old police officer, into arresting her.

"Kay, You talk about authority, and how I don't supposedly respect those in authority, but when a certified police officer gives you a direct order, and you insolently refuse to comply, You Mrs. Kay Fox are being disrespectful!" Jacqueline couldn't believe the insolence of this woman.

"Is she going to jail?" Lisa asked looking at Jacqueline.

"And what's your name?" The officer asked.
"My name is Lisa." Lisa said cheerfully.
"If she doesn't stop interfering in your custody then she will." The officer said looking at Lisa.

"What does that word mean?" Lisa asked Jacqueline.

"It means I have legal rights over you, and that I am to look out for you. Mrs. Kay is breaking the law, by getting involved. It's called interfering with the custody of a minor." Jacqueline whispered into Lisa's ear.

Jacqueline was really trying not to become rude, nor was she trying to be disrespectful in any way, but Kay was crossing the line, and she wanted to let Kay know this, with out being disrespectful concerning the issue.

"My name is Officer Bob. Can I ask you some
questions?" The officer asked.

"Yes." Lisa said calmly.
"Lisa?" Jacqueline looked at Lisa sternly.
"Yes Sir." Lisa said correcting herself.
"Lisa, we're going to have to work on how we speak to grown-ups." Jacqueline said looking disappointed.

"You should have stayed with us, Jacqueline hasn't taught you anything, but how to disrespect adults! I and David would have made you respect authority!" Kay interjected, walking briskly toward Jacqueline and Lisa.

"Kay, Please. I've told you that I was Lisa's legal guardian, and that you need to stay out of our conversation, because it does not pertain to you."

"Do you like living with Jacqueline?" The officer
had his note pad at the ready.
"She's really too young to be caring for Lisa." Kay
said before Lisa had a chance to answer the officer's question.
"Mrs. Fox, is your name Lisa?" The officer asked
upset.
"No it isn't." Kay said bowing her head.
"You are interfering with an investigation; I asked
Lisa a question and not you! If you disrupt her again I will cuff you and charge you with

interfering with a police investigation do you understand? Do you understand?"

Jacqueline could tell the officer's patients were running out.
"Yes sir," Kay said stepping away from Lisa and
Jacqueline.
"Kay says that Jacqueline can't take care of me, but
that's not true." Lisa said crying.
"Oh It sure is!" Kay said angrily.

"Alright Mrs. Fox, put your hands behind your back!" Officer Bob said in a firm voice, but Kay just stood their.

"Hold it Sir! I am Seventy years of age, You are being vary disrespectful! Don't you ever touch me like that again Do you under stand me young Man?" Kay shouted at the officer striking him in the face.

"Damn you Lady!" The sixty-five-year-old lady shouted back.

"Alright Mrs. Fox, I'm letting you off with another warning, but if you persist with this behavior, You're going to jail." The officer said firmly, and then turning back to Lisa, he asked,

"Do you want." The officer was interrupted as Lisa threw a temper tantrum.

"Mrs. Kay wants me to live with her, and she always tries to get Jacqueline in trouble! I don't want to go back into the foster home, with that bad woman! Jacqueline Please don't let bob call Mr. Stokes, I don't want to go! I'm living with Jacqueline, because Barbra and Jacqueline love me."

"O.K. Lisa, the officer isn't going. Lisa No!" Jacqueline firmly pulled Lisa toward her.

"I'm not taking you anywhere." Bob said walking over to Lisa.

"Jacqueline, why did Officer Bob have to ask me
that?" Lisa asked Crying.
"Because it's his job to make sure that you're safe
and that know one is trying to hurt you." Jacqueline said calmly rapping Lisa in a
maternal hug.
Officer Bob walked over, and motioned for
Jacqueline to go with him.
"I'm sorry for upsetting the child." Bob said
sincerely.
"I'll have a talk with Lisa, she'll be alright."

Jacqueline said softly.
"What made her go off like that?" The officer asked.
"Lisa is Thirteen years old, but she has and will always have the mental capacity of an eight year old." Jacqueline said softly walking toward the door of the social security office.

"Bob, I am disappointed you didn't arrest Kay." Jacqueline said firmly.

"She said for me not to touch her."
"That's right Sir, I'll be talking to your supervisor!" Kay shouted at the top of her lungs.

"Kay, do you honestly think Carl Donley is going to believe you, when there are witnesses plus video cameras in this parking lot?" Jacqueline asked looking amazed.

Just as Jacqueline completed her sentence, Pastor
David Fox walked up.
"Hello Reverend, how are you?" Officer Bob asked
shaking the minister's hand.
"I'm doing alright, I'm not complaining." The
Pastor said grinning.
"So Jacqueline, are we in trouble young lady?" The reverend asked in a snotty tone of voice.

"No sir," Jacqueline said calmly.

"This officer put his hands on me, and Jacqueline provoked it!" Kay shouted at her husband.

"Pastor Fox. That is not true, and you know it isn't!" Jacqueline said firmly looking into the pastor's eyes.

"Jacqueline, do you have to go to Iraq?" Lisa asked
again in hopes to have her question answered but instead Kay said in a malicious voice,
"Lisa don't start with me. Jacqueline is just a child herself, you should not even be living
with her."
"Lady, shut the hell up! What part of mind your
own business don't you understand? Ever since we've gotten off the bus, you've been

pestering this girl and it's not right!" Said the same Sixty-Five-year-old woman from

earlier.

"Yeh. that lady told you meanny!"
"Lisa?" Jacqueline's face looked disapproving in Lisa's direction.

"Lisa love's Jacqueline and she won't let Mrs. Kay take Lisa away from Jacqueline. Lisa will not go with Meanny."

"Lisa stop." Jacqueline said firmly. She continued.

"When we get home, you're going to time out." Jacqueline said with finality.

"But what about Luis?"
"Lisa, Luis only comes when you're good." Kay said grinning, thinking Jacqueline couldn't hear her.

"Lady, If that girl kicks your ass, you'll be sorry! She's 6-4, and you smell like you had too much to drink. You stink!" The Sixty-five-year-old woman said Looking at Kay, with discussed.

"Lisa needs to live with a Christian family and Jacqueline Sutton." Kay's words broke off as the Sixty-five-year-old woman walked up to Jacqueline and addressed her.

"My name is Molly, and I just wanted to let you know, your doing a good job, and that Lady needs to stay out of your business." Jacqueline could tell by the woman's voice, that the exchanges between Kay and herself, was getting annoying.

The doors to the social security office opened, and
Jacqueline and Lisa disappeared inside with the rest of the people.
"Jacqueline, What's Social security?" Lisa asked
Interested.
"Lisa don't ask that again you're too young!" Kay
Interjected, as she got in line.
"Kay tell it like it is!" Pastor Fox said firmly
to his wife.
"Lisa doesn't want Jacqueline to leave her, and she." The minister's words were drowned out by Lisa's voice.

"I hate you Mrs. Kay. and Jacqueline won't get in trouble because of you meanny."

"Lisa please. don't stoop down to her level. You're already going to time out when we get home." Jacqueline said softly, as she moved down the line.

Jacqueline noticed the man to her right was acting strange. He cut in front of Kay, and went straight up to the counter. Kay had gotten in line right in front of Jacqueline so Jacqueline was able to see what was about to happen next. The man then pulled out a semiautomatic rifle, and turned around facing the people standing in line.

"Oh my god! He's got a gun!" A woman shouted as the man with the rifle pointed it directly at Kay's head.

"You are going to leave that girl and kid alone you vile old woman!" The man said, but Kay just stood their and laughed.

"I was just leaving!" Kay said sarcastically, but the man looked her right in the face and said in an angry tone, holding the rifle and waving it over Kay's head as if it were a blessing, "You are just now preparing to die. you are going to meet your maker. you took my child away from me, because you stuck your nose into my business as well, and so now you will pay. you will pay with your vary life. I know all about you, and you are not at all how you present yourself to the public. I was in your foster home, and you forced me to attend church, when my parents told you I was a Muslim!"

"You are demon Possessed. you are possessed by the demon Beliel!" Kay said sarcastically, stepping away from the man. Jacqueline couldn't believe how arrogant Kay was acting in the face of certain death. Without warning, Lisa broke away, and ran up to the man, and put her arm around him.

"Mr. Jacqueline loves me, and I don't want you to hurt her!" Lisa cried.

"No, I won't hurt Jacqueline. I promise little one." The man cried. Jacqueline took a closer look at the man, and realized that it was Adam, a boy she had went to high school with. Jacqueline knew he had suffered mental problems, but she didn't think he would do something like this.

"Adam. Please. this is not the way to go!" Jacqueline pleaded
"Lisa Jacqueline." Kay's words were interrupted, as Adam punched Kay in the stomach, forcing her to let go of Lisa's shirt.

"Jacqueline, please come get the girl. so I can do what I have to do." Adam said looking deranged.

Jacqueline ran up, and firmly pulled Lisa away, and just as she did so, three shots rang out. Kay screeched, "Oh dear!" as she fell to the floor with a thud, then in order to make sure she was really dead, Adam riddled Kay foxes body with four more bullet wholes.

"She won't bother you anymore little one," Adam said looking deranged.

"Adam. Please. Adam it's not worth going to death row over, think about her family." Jacqueline pleaded again, but it was if Adam was totally in another world.

"Ah! You feel sorry for her now?" Adam hissed.

"Every body, shut up! Just shut up, or more people will die! You are all my hostages!" Adam shouted, waving the gun violently in the air.

However, Adam was not done. He ran up to David Fox, and shot him twice in the chest close to the heart. It was if something came over Adam, because after he shot David, he still kept shooting, hitting officer Bob in the chest killing him as well. The officer didn't even have a chance to retrieve his weapon.

Then Adam calmly walked over to a table, and sat the rifle upon it.

"Jacqueline, help me." Adam said terrified.

"Why did you do this Adam? Especially when there is a Ten year old child standing about a foot away from your gun Barrel?" Jacqueline asked while trying to keep her composure.

"Jacqueline, how's Luis?" Said Adam casually as if the two of them were at their class reunion. Jacqueline thought, "This man really does need help."

"Adam. You've just shot three people, and you're. Asking. about. about. Luis, after you've just gunned down his Grandparents?" Jacqueline said, her voice cracking, and as the tears streamed down her face, like a river over flowing its banks.

"You're still planning on becoming a cop, right?" Adam asked casually with the same look in his eyes.

"Yes and when I do, you'll know." Jacqueline thought as she watched Adam calmly walk out of the social security office. Jacqueline couldn't move. Yes, Kay wasn't a liked person, and yes she really didn't care for either Kay or David, but they did not deserve to be murdered in the manner they were, but the thing that puzzled Jacqueline, was the death of the police officer. Did he even realize what was going on before he was shot? Adam rushed back into the building, and ran up to Jacqueline. He had the same look on his face from before, and Jacqueline knew she was in trouble, when Adam walked over to the table, and picked up the gun, and ran out of the building, but this time Jacqueline followed him.

"Jacqueline, Luis will be looking for you, and you'll be sleeping with the fishes!" Adam shouted after her.

"A shot rang out across the parking lot, and Jacqueline felt a sharp pain, near her right side.

"Mam, you've been shot. please let me call an ambulance!" A by stander shouted.

"It's just a flesh wound," The doctor said looking at the bullet wound.

Later on that evening, Jacqueline read her mail. It was time for re-enlistment, but after the events, she felt she needed to stay and protect Lisa. She wrote her superiors a letter, informing them that she wouldn't be re-enlisting. Two weeks later, she received a letter excepting her decision, and in the letter, her commanding officer made good recommendations, to the chief of police, concerning Jacqueline's character by saying that her character was above reproach.
A few days later, Jacqueline received a phone call from her boyfriend Luis. He sounded upset his voice cracked as he said, "Jacqueline, I can't fathem." Jacqueline said softly, "Luis Kay was hounding both Lisa and myself the intire morning. I didn't know Adam was even in the crowd, until it was to late."
"Well, my grand mother is dead. she was not who she led others to believe." Luis said angrily.
Lisa came running in to the living room.
"Jacqueline, we're on TV!" Lisa said amaized.
"Just a minute Luis." Jacqueline turned to Lisa and skolled her.
"Lisa, please do not interrupt me when I am on the tellaphone. That is rude! And I do not want it to happen again! Do I make my self clear?" A look of disappointment slid across Jacqueline's face as she said these words. Lisa stood frozen, as Jacqueline's words ekowed in her head, but this rebuke was different. Lisa knew she'd get in trouble with Jacqueline and she would have to go to time out, then afterword, Jacqueline and Lisa would sit down, and talk about the problem, and things Lisa needed to work on, so she wouldn't get into trouble over the same problem.
"Lisa, go sit on the couch please. When I get off of the phone, you are getting four licks with the pattel." Jacqueline said softly.
Jacqueline placed the phone back in the cratel and walked over to where Lisa sat.
"O.K. Lisa. go to your room."" Jacqueline said with a hent of loving disaplaine in her voice.
Jacqueline walked into Lisa's room carring a pattel, Luis had made for the purpose of disaplining a child. Luis had made the pattel for his brother, but his brother had given it to Jacqueline when he found out that she'd be raising Lisa.
"Jacqueline, I made a mistake." Lisa said in hopes of getting a repreve.
"Lisa, if a murderer killed someone, and he only said, 'I made a mistake' how would you feel?"
"I don't like that man that hurt Bob." Lisa said crying.
The pattel flew across Lisa's butoux, four times, then Jacqueline said, "I love you Lisa, but what you did was wrong, and you had to pay the conciquences."
Jacqueline sat on the padio, looking out at the rising sun. It was a few months since the Foxes had been murdered, and the investigation was going no where fast. She was excited though, because today would be her first day as a city of Orlando police officer, and she had resolved to treat people the way she'd wish to be treated. She would continue being herself. As Jacqueline patrolled around Lisa's school, she saw two girls fighting.
"Brake it up girls! Would either of you like to fill me in as to what this fight was about?" Jacqueline asked, reaching for her hand cuffs.
"A boy." One of the girls said grinning.
"Brinda, I don't think this is something to smile about. You're already going to jail on another charge." Jacqueline said stepping toward the girls.
"officer Sutton, I need to talk to you." A student said running up to the officer with a look of terror on her face.
"OK, What's wrong?" Jacqueline asked softly.
"I need to talk to you in privet. Its about the murder of the police officer." The girl looked pledingly at Jacqueline as she said this.

Jacqueline took the girl into an empty class room, and sat her down in a chair.

"He raped me!" The girl said shaking.

"Who raped you Candy?" Jacqueline Asked for Clearty.
