[stylist] Moving backwards and forwards in time?

Helene, I'm writing a novel that takes place in the late 70's.  I begin the 
novel with the statement, "Curtis Cove, New York November 1977
This gives the reader knowledge about the place, a fictitious city in a real 
state and the time period of the plot.  Hth, Judith
