[stylist] Ending on a cliff hanger

When Steven King wrote his Dark Tower series, he ended book three with all
the main characters in a very precarious position. To keep your sanity, you
need to read book four immediately after book three. Problem is, he didn't
publish book four for about 18 months after book three hit the market. I was
spared this torture because I got into the series after both had been
published, but I'll bet those poor people who were waiting were in agony
Lol.

Oh my,
reading several series of tall ships fiction, two of them with more than
twenty books, I can say nearly all of them ended with suspense, some
question for the next book, some character in doubt, some danger looming,
etc.
if you're doing a series, or even just a prequel you about can't avoid
having that. one follows the other.
