please do.  I'm sure that is in elements of style.

some research yielded:

farthest usually refers to distance, time, elements in a measured or 
finite sense.

furthest  refers to degree, abstractions, imprecise comparisons.

you're right Barbara, thank you.  so that would be the farthest swim 
anyone has made.  and this might be the furthest anyone has gotten 
with that mapquest for humor and fun.
