The HARO (Help a Reporter Out) list is a free daily e mail (3 times a 
day, 5 days a week usually). You can sign up to receive them, if you're 
interested in promoting yourself as an expert or have a product or 
service to promote.  Writers can post queries about the things they're 
working on as well.  Visit:
www.helpareporter.com
Then, you read the queries posted by writers and, if any are a match, 
you respond to them using the information provided in the queries.

As for getting paid ... Some of us consider free publicity an end in 
itself.  Usually, reporters do not pay their sources,
