[stylist] apologies

Hi, Barbara, Lori and everyone!

I think that whomever is telling you that your poetry without rhyme and
meter is prose has not heard of free verse, whichis poetry without rhyme and
meter. I can't remember too much more about the technicalities of free
verse, so I'd better quit while I'm ahead!

And yes, I do like the supportive and nurturing and probing qualities of
this list; I mean probing in a good way.

We both must hang out in the wrong circles because if you read the stuff in 
Poetry magazine and read the current writers, they mostly are written in 
what I would also call prose.  I like the rhyme and meter because it fits 
well.  It gives me a skeleton to put skin on in whatever words I choose.
I had a collebvge professor who hated rhyming poetry "but," he said, "it is 
the hardest kind to write."  I felt like he was complimenting me even though

he didn't know it.
Boy did I hate trying to wring meanings out of poems that I didn't see 
there.  I'm glad I only had to read that semester and not be shot down by 
him with my work.  He had also just published a book of translated poems. 
He thought he was the cat's meow.
I may get brave enough to offer up some of my writings and have you all 
critique it.  You are much gentler than college profs were.
