[stylist] Update on my publishing progress

Hi all,
I am continuing to work on my book that will be published by the National
Braille Press, Exploring Microsoft Word 2007 with JAWS. They have decided
they want it finished by the beginning of April so that it will be ready by
the ACB and NFB conventions this year. Anna Dresner, who is editing with me,
wants it done by the end of March so she can have a couple of proofreaders
look at it by the time we submit for publication.

This is where we are at; I submitted the book to Anna. She proofread it and
made suggestions on ways to improve it. Then she sent it back to me. I made
the changes and sent it back to her. Once again, she made suggestions and
sent it back to me for revisions. I guess I always thought the editor was
the one who made the changes. I do see that she is changing punctuation and
grammar, but actual changes to the text are done by me.

Through this whole process I have begun to wonder whose book it is anyway,
mine or hers? I know that this is all good. I do sometimes wonder if it is
worth it, sometimes it feels endless and overwhelming. In the end though, I
know it is worth it. Even though I won't make much money on it (20% of all
sales), it is worth it because it will get my name put in the Library of
Congress when NBP purchases the ISBN. This is a time consuming process.
Thank goodness the book is only 31 pages! Through the editing process it has
grown from about 20 or 22 pages to 31.

NBP did send me a contract to sign, but I haven't gotten a reader to assist
me with doing that yet.

This is all a learning process for me. I am working on a novel on the side,
but I haven't done much with it for quite a while. It is all about a girl
who loses her sight while still in school and how the world treats her
differently after her sight loss.

I will continue to update through this process as it evolves. I still can't
believe sometimes that my work is good enough to publish! I never thought
anything I did was that good.
