[stylist] Monthly phone topic

Since Priscilla is an instructor, could she explain these styles and
provide examples?

I, too, can try to find specific examples of published authors that
display certain styles, but she may have ideas already.

There are a lot of ways in which to structure non-fiction, just like
fiction. Not all narratives are told in a linear fashion meaning they
do not begin at point A and move in succession from B to C. Rather they
begin at point C and switch around.

Creative non-fiction is a great outlet that allows writers to explore
and experiment with form and style.

I think it would be best to look at examples of published writers and
discuss the style as well as what we like and don't like about certain
pieces. Just my thought.

Bridgit

RE: September Writers' Division's Telephone Gathering- Sunday September
26th

the topic for our monthly telephone gathering for this month has
changed. Our college instructor had to wing her way off to Singapore to
consult or teach. Exciting! I bet we can get her next month.

The new topic is brought to us by Priscilla McKinley. She suggests: Have
people read a couple of paragraphs that focus on style and voice and
that we discuss nonfiction pieces that use particular styles and voices.
We could also discuss various forms of memoir writing -- books, essays,
journals, and so on. And forms of the essay? Spiral, Linear, and
disjointed.

I'll be there for this one, for sure. Some of the above terms, I can
only guess at the concepts they represent. (Here is an admission- As far
as I recall, I've never cracked open a book on writing --- ooo lots of
discussion and come from that confession.)

Is there anyone out there who can find examples of all the writing
styles mentioned above?

The time is- 8:30 PM Eastern; 7:30 PM Central; 6:30 PM Mountain; 5:30 PM
Pacific.

The phone number to call is- 218-339-4300

The code is: 568839# (last character is a number sign)

It will be recorded and posted to our website

Robert,
Unfortunately, I have a NAGDU Board of Directors meeting that I
think I
should attend, especially since I am the President of that division. At
the
same time, though, you could probably use something I have written as an

example of "disjointed" writing! (smile) Honestly, I didn't even know
that
was a style; rather, I would have thought it were a lack of same! (grin)

Fraternally yours,
Marion

Marion --- yes, you better take care of your own! It would be great to
have you verbally on, one time; we've all seen your email posts, have an
idea of who you are and a voice and an auditory sampling of your
personality would be fun.

And here is something I'd like to have you give us a couple of lines on
--- at the end of your messages, you write- "Fraternally yours," and so
what are you saying, meaning? (No judgment going on here, just
curiosity)
Marion

Dear All,
Please excuse the cross-posting of this message. I am seeking to be
a bit more organized now that I have finally filed my 2009 taxes! Rather
than throwing my receipts into a folder and then spending hours with my
tax preparer trying to figure things out at the end of the year, I am
looking for a fairly simple software that is accessible to JAWS.
Especially now that I have so many revenue streams and resulting
expenses, I need to be able to create several accounts and P&L reports
on my various projects in order to determine if they are really
profitable.
I once used Quicken when I had more sight , but I understand that it
is not very accessible. I do remember it had the ability to generate
some great reports based on the information entered into the check
registry and , although I do need a good accessible check registry, I
would also like to have a more soophisticated accounting software with a
general ledger, and a variety of accounts. If anyone can provide some
assistance in this matter, it would be greatly appreciated!

fraternally yours,
Marion Gwizdala
