[stylist] Writing and community service

Hey,

Yes, blogs usually are around 300 to 700 words. Some may reach 1000
words, but that is a stretch.

Professional blogs tend to stick to shorter, the 300 to 700 range, but
since you are a private blog, you can have blogs be as long as you want,
though I would advise you maintain shorter-to-the-point blogs.

for someone who has family in both Egypt and Israel I agree and you
stated this. No True freedom, every man in Egypt must serve the army no
if ands or buts, so they are for the people or it wouldn't have been
this peaceful. The army is for freedom

Hi Cheryl, I could see how happy you are that Mubarack stepped down in
Egypt. If this indeed means freedom for the Egyptian people I'm happy
for everyone who now lives in freedom. My apprehension comes from the
possibility that the Moslem brotherhood, an oppressive sharia
organization that will enslave the people of Egypt and present a threat
to Israel, the only democracy in the region will take over. The army is
now in charge, but do they lean towards oppression or true freedom?
Best to your family, Judith

Hi Donna and all,

I'd like the word count for stories to be between 500 and 700 words. The
one
I am going to post tomorrow, which is written by our first guest
speaker, is
exactly 700 words. I'm thinking the stories from our guest speakers are
going to be closer to the higher end of that word count because they're
basically going to be recaps of their presentations and overviews of all
of
their community service experience. I'm thinking that stories about one
particular experience or aspect of community service will be more toward
the
lower end of that count.

I'm wondering if all of this sounds reasonable. I've taken a college
course
in Web writing, but this is the first time I've worked on a blog outside
of
class. I'd welcome advice about any of this from anyone on the list.

Donna, our group would definitely be interested in participating in an
article. Like you, we believe that blind people getting involved in
community service is an important message. Let me know the details as
the
time gets closer.

Chris

Chris,
I have it on my calendar to contact you around mid April. Keep in mind
that we can use JPeg photos in the article, so if anyone can get a
picture of themselves doing volunteer work, please do so.

I think 500 to 700 words for a blog post is fine. There is a great
variation in the lengths of posts, but I've always believed that 500
words is sufficient to get any idea across, and 700 isn't too much that
the reader gets bored. As a writer for online magazines, I initially
got used to writing articles of under 1500 words for American Chronicle.

Then, I was accepted at Suite 101 and they initially wanted between 400
& 800 words. Now, they've changed it to up to 1000 words,, and I find
that my articles have stretched to that now.
Cheers,
Donna
