[stylist] Something to ponder

Good point. I think it goes different ways with different
people.
Some people are able to read or talk with someone about a
situation they haven't gone through, and still be able to write
about it, but others can't.
A writer came into our English class and told us something very
interesting. He said that he wanted his book to take place in
the Netherlands. So he travelled to the Netherlands and found
out what he needed to know about the people, etc.
After he came back, though, he felt like he was interferring with
the culture and still didn't know enough about it, so he set his
story in Hollywood.
So I don't think there's one true answer to this question.

For argument's sake, how do you tap into emotions and experiences
you
haven't dealt with or met people who have dealt with them and
shared
their experiences with you? And can your story have true depth
without a
personal connection to emotions, thoughts and feelings? Can
research
alone replicate certain emotions and experiences?

I disagree with this statement because I feel that writing is a
part of living. You don't have to do lots of great things in
your life to be a writer.
