[stylist] Lynda's Christmas poem - interesting!

Yes, Robert,
it does remind me of a crossword puzzle, too, now that you mention it. You
know, that would be a challenge, to write an acrostic that is ALSO put
together like a crossword puzzle, wouldn't it!

One year, 1999, I wrote a SESTINA and gave a copy of it to each of my family
members. My mother had Alzheimer's disease. I knew it was the last year
that we would ever be in our family home together. I wrote the poem about
the house my parents had built when we were children and where we all had
gathered on Christmas Eve every year together, with our parents. I have the
poem framed and on display in my library.

Yesterday morning, my daughter - in - law came down for breakfast and told
me she had read that poem. The poem was a connection for her, with our past
years, with my parents who have died, and our family home that is no longer
in our family. A simple poem can mean so much to someone. We cannot ever
forget the value of our words and the link they are to other people.

Each year, I write a special short poem, and it is printed inside of an
original card that is handmade by my daughter and sent out to all on our
mailing list. Each year, we write a Christmas letter as well, full of photos
of events and things we enjoyed together throughout the year. It is my way
of reaching across the miles and giving a big hug to all our family members
where they are today. These are some of the things you rekindled in me
through your note, Robert. Thank you!

Lynda
