[stylist] what I've been reading

Thanks, I'll have to try that out.

I've read some of Phillip Jose Farmer's works, "Strange Relations", "The Lovers", and one of the Riverworld books, he can be very good, but sometimes is not. Still, I will have to try your suggestion.

All right, comes now "Riders of the Purple Wage," by Phillip Jose Farmer.
It's a humorous science fiction story, or maybe a novella, that takes place
in future Los Angeles. It's a spoof with many literary allusions,
especially to the works of James Joyce. I found it funny and intellectually
stimulating. It's available on tape from NLS in a compilation of SF stories
whose editor is, I think, Orson Scott Card.

OK, I hadn't heard of Writers of the Purple Sage, think I'll take a pass.

Did you read "The Rainbow Bridge" which is the sequel to Riders of the
Purple Sage? I read it and found it also to be a good book.

Oh! I love, love, love Riders of the Purple Sage!
However, Writers of the Purple Sage was a compilation of short stories that
I didn't find at all interesting--Well, maybe one or two but that was years
ago when I read it.

Vejas

You might also want to try Rider's of the Purple Sage, or The Vanishing
American by Zane Grey; he does an excellent job describing nature and the
old west. The Heinline Juveniles, for instance Have Spacesuit will Travel
or The Space Cadets are also good books. I would also recommend "Education
of a Wondering Man by Louis L'amour. He talks about how he started writing,
how he believes in reading a variety of books, and some of his adventures as
a young man.

Anyway, good luck with finding good books.

Vejas -

I recommend reading any book on your (or any other) high school's summer
reading list. Teachers generally know good books, and with the exception of
Moby Dick, they are all great reads. Of course, many people love Moby
Dick--I'm just not one of them. In addition, I'd recommend The Shining, or,
Firestarter by Stephen King. The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien. To Kill
a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the
Nighttime by MarkHaddon. Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. City of Bones by
Michael Connelly.
You need to try a variety of authors and styles to find what you like, and
this is a good mix.

Gerardo--Sorry, but I don't know how blind people in other countries obtain
books. Here in the US, we get them from several resources, most popular
being on tape or digital download from the National Library Services of the
Library of Congress. Bookshare, which Vejas seems to use extensively, is a
good resource, although I don't know if it is for US citizens only. You
might investigate there.
