Brad, daydreaming definitely has its time and place, and its
limitations. Like you, I find coming back to the real world a jolt and
often a distinct downer. On the other hand, a number of songs, poems and
ideas for stories or solutions to story problems have sprung directly
from my monderings. In college and grad school, such time in a sort of
Never Neverland was often very helpful in writing academic papers. As I
say, it's a tool and as such needs to be used responsibly. Right before
a business meeting is probably not the best time for it. *grin*
Chris, I also have a Stream and love it. It is my companion on many a
sleepless night.
Brenda, as Chris says, being an insomniac helps a lot as far as reading
goes. Of course, it's pretty lousy where the rest of your life is
concerned, but it's great for reading. *wry grin*
Most recently, I finished COYOTE HORIZON by Allen Steele. Currently
rereading THE CLOCKS by Agatha Christie.
Brad, My sister gave me 11 22 63 this fall, so I was interested to read
your impressions of it. I hope to get to it soon.
Barbara, in your poem, for the line:
Not a flake of snow do I spy.
try instead
No snow's in the sky.
As to the lines:
There are nonexisting gale-force winds
And four feet of invisible snow.
"Nonexistent" is the right word here rather than "nonexisting." But I
agree with Donna that it is awkward. You need to rework the line. I like
the "four feet of invisible snow" though.
