[stylist] Awards and Coffee Cans

Lynda,
I love your spirit. I also answer, the minute I sense someone has stopped
addressing me about my business.
Forgot to mention, I love the way your daughter is allowing the little ones
to develop into artists.
Jackie

Yes, I do this with bathrooms, too. Either a family member or a friend will
have a look and then tell me where it is, on what side, etc. so I can find
it successfully.
I realize that most people have never been around a blind person in their
life and they know absolutely nothing about our needs, so I try to be very
patient.

When my daughter and I checked our art works into a show last Friday, the
two people at the desk were VERY unfriendly. Of course, it takes me awhile
longer to get my things out and to give them the cards they need for each
item - at one point the lady grabbed the group of cards (there are THREE for

EACH art work and we were delivering work for FIVE people, so we had a lot
to bring in) and my daughter grabbed the cards right back off of her, so she

would not get them all mixed together then we would really have had a mess.
One person at the desk just sat there staring at ME, according to my
daughter. The interesting thing is that this person KNOWS ME from years
ago - yet, she never said one word or tried to help us. I would never have
known she was even there but my daughter saw her, of course. The other one
was very brusque with us, and tried to make us hurry - which is not
possible. And, of course, we were paying for every piece we brought in which

was MONEY for their art club - yet, they were very rude. When I was doing
the last thing, I laughed, and said, "You will have to be patient. It takes
me a bit longer to do things." No response, of course.

Yes, I too have had experiences with people talking to everyone around me,
but not me. We all have that happen, I am sure. That is when I speak up and
I answer the questions myself, and usually they will immediately change the
attitude. One thing for sure, we have to be on the alert at all times
because we never know when the zingers are coming our way. But, we can do it

with grace and not anger or rudeness. My day depends on only ME - it is ME
who decides that my day will be a great one and I don't intend to allow
anyone else to turn it around.

Lynda
