Our library has an accessible computer.  Why?  Because David and I joined
the Friends of the Library, became active, and talked the Friends of the
library (An organization that raises money to fund programs for the library)
into funding Window Eyes.  So yes, it can be done, but the library will not
think of it or do it unless someone wants it and is willing to work to make
the funding possible.  No one understands what you need the way you do.

Our car dealer had no Braille on the bathrooms, so David wrote a letter and
was able to tell them where to get Braille.  They applied it.  Why?  Because
drivers often have blind spouses who will wait with them while the car is
being fixed.  I note the same dealer has a paper towel holder too high for
anyone in a wheelchair to use.  But no one has brought this to their
attention, and so it remains.

What do they say about squeaky wheels?  Often you need not only to squeak,
but to instruct.  By the way if there is no Braille on the library
bathrooms, they are in violation of the ADA, as Libraries receive federal
funding.  How do you get them to change?  Email a suggestion to the director
of the library with specific instructions as to how they can comply.  Send a
copy of the email to the people who enforce the ADA.  No library will want
to lose public funding.  But you need to do it.  No one will do it for you.

Many websites are inaccessible.  David is on a campaign to get them to
become accessible.  How?  Emailing their customer service, instructing them
about text friendly sites, phoning CEOs, whatever it takes.  It doesn't work
every time, but it works often enough to make the effort worthwhile.

our public libraries don't have assistive technology either. I suggest you 
advocate for it as I plan to.
Yes it seems like the law of equal access isn't enforced. Yes federal 
government will give disabled workers jobs, but not equal access to 
training materials and often they get menial responsibilities because 
software isn't accessible. My blind friends tell me that
online training isn't accessible. Yep the worst offender.

Your training sounds both horrible and familiar. I am sorry you had to go
through that. Sometimes I do not understand the purpose of the ADA laws of
accessability. There are so many places that do not even try and it seems
okay. I often have my 5 year old granddaughter take me to the bathroom in
public because she could identify the women's while I cannot always do so.
There are rarely Braile or even raised identifiers around and as for
accessible technology... forget it. Our library has a full computer lab,
but nothing accessible and it is a public library that receives government
funding. I have heard that the federal government is the biggest offender
even. My brother and sister in law work for the IRS and they often have the
same problems you met up with- going to trainings and not having anything
they can access. I went to the bank yesterday and they now have new number
pads that are touch. The teller asked me to put in my pin and I told her
there were no numbers. Until recently they had tactile number pads. Why did
they get rid of them? They have the laws, I just wish they would enforce
