[stylist] new writing assignment?

Barbara,
I don't know what you do for a living or what others do. But many here are 
not full time writers.
If you want more critiques, you probably should join a real writing group in 
your community.
Your  post seems disappointed; well you would probably learn more if you 
discussed writing with others anyway rather than a virtual forum.
I like the sharing of writing, however, I also enjoy the general tips, 
techniques, word of the day, questions on style and computer tips too.

Libraries may have some as well.
I encourage everyone to share writing and I will share some myself. Its 
school spring break so I'll post something or two.

However, people do get busy and many people are on multiple lists here.
I really wonder myself how you all have time to read and write so much. I 
don't especially when I was fortunate enough to have an internship. My 
commute was like an hour home due to traffic and then I was kind of tired. I 
had time to change clothes and eat dinner and then it was like 8:00 so not 
much gets done after that.

Another thing is that many of you share poems. Speaking for myself, I cannot 
critique nor can I enjoy poetry with jaws. The format is messed up; you 
cannot see the structure of stanzas or how its laid out. Spelling, 
punctuation and format is more important in poetry and you just cannot! do 
it well with a screen reader.

Anyway, I have a hundred emails to read from this list and when time 
permits, I will read and comment on writing. You all are great writers and I 
encourage you to continue sharing writings and ideas.

I agree with you, Chris.  It must have just been the desire to make some new
beginnings with the new year, but once it came we fell back into old habits.
I would like to find a group who is serious about improving their writing
skills.  I guess if you and I are the only ones going to do this, it may not
even be worth our time?
It makes me sad to see this because I was immensely enjoying all the
different writings.  I tried to make the effort to comment on people's
things.  If we can't learn how to critique a piece--or take criticism about
our own--how can we improve our own skills?
And if folks don't like our remarks and think their work is fine the way
they wrote it, we have to accept that, too, because ultimately they are the
ones who wrote it and so it's their baby.

I liked Brad's comment about not having the time to do it this time so I
should just go chop up an onion.  That was cute.
I wonder just how many students are on this list who are busy with homework.

I think your March writing prompt is fine, and I'll toss it around and see
if I come up with anything. But, this is an apathetic group, and it's not as
interesting when people don't participate. I think we had 8 people
contribute in December, 5 in January and only three in February, and even
fewer bothered to read and critique. I'm not sure how many people belong to
this list, but that's a poor response rate, no matter how you look at it.
