[stylist] KNFB reader and tools for jotting thoughts/ideas

Brenda,
I don't think there is an NFB list for assistive technology. One for
assistive tech trainers and one for
electronics called electronics talk, but not just for assistive tech.

Maybe you all live in rural areas with few resources. Our vr agency may not
be perfect and they don't help blind people find jobs much, but they do have
some assistive technology at the office you can see. You can request they
buy technology if you are a student and its tied to your VR goal.
If you are a vr client, start with your counselor and see what, if any,
technology they can show you.
Other resources may be a nfb state convention, lighthouse for the blind,
other blindness nonprofit such as Braille Institute or Metrolina association
for the blind and the internet. Here in my area we have columbia lighthouse
for the blind.
Hadley school for the blind, a distance ed program, also has some free
webinars about technology.
They also have a course called intro to technology or something like that.

As for the question of jotting down notes, I don't have a full proof
solution.
Its easy to just roll over and write down notes if you can see. Every tool I
think of has its drawbacks; so just pick a tool right for that time of day.
I use my brailler for quick notes. For longer ones such as an outline, I use
the computer. Still other brainstorming I do with a tape player.

Hi Eve
I wish I had read that post about Michigan. They need to do away with
Ohio Rehab as it is a joke especially in the Northeast. They don't help
consumers who are blind.

Anyway, about learning about tech tools for writing, there may be an NFB
list for that. I have had to figure things out on my own. Before my
vision loss I surfed the net and found Michael Ericson (ME Inc) I think
the name is before he retired. He helped me figure out about screen
readers. I surfed the web from there. Also, you might call the
1-800numbers of different places and just ask questions. Handy-Tech
North folks are very nice and they have cool tech stuff. Not sure if
your state rehab could help at all. If you are a student or have an
employment goal, they might send you to a local agency for the blind.
It would not cost you anything to contact them and say you need help
with employment and see where it went.

Going to the National Convention would be nice if it were close, but
even then you spend the money on a hotel and not tech stuff.

Maybe an idea for a writing prompt in the months to follow would be
"gadget used for some aspect of writing."
