[stylist] Moving

Someone, and I wish I knew who, once said something like, "Unclear writing
is the result of unclear thinking." Our brains move more quickly to figure
these things out than our fingers do. I think it's the mind set that puts us
in position to act upon inspiration not what the body is doing at the
moment.

I would have to agree with J. K. Rowling in that the time I spend actually
writing is a small minority of the time I spend with a story. Most of my
time with a story is daydreaming in contemplation of the natural progression
of the tale.
Also, if what the muse leaves you is gone by the time you get to a means to
write, it probably wasn't worth writing to start with.

Agreed, with the caveat that moving can also be physical. I get many ideas
while walking, and often problems I'm having -- in terms of figuring out how
to say things -- work themselves out when my mind is in neutral. J.K.Rowling
didn't have anything to write with or onn when the muse struck about Harry
Potter; she's often said that the work she did thinking that day was more
valuable than what she would have put on paper.

Move and the way will open.
- Zen Proverb
This Zen proverb applies to our writing, or our lack of writing.
In art we say "You better be standing at your easel when the Muse arrives."
I think for writing, we better have that pencil in our hand when the muse
arrives. (or be at the computer typing?) Ideas come when we are engaged in
our craft very often.
This is certainly true in my life as I make art or write.
The more I am into the physical process, the sooner the way opens. Each move
I make in the process leads me to the next move, and the next. It is a walk
of faith.
