since it wasn't a sestina, was this a particular form?

Here is the second poem, published in YAWP, 2000. I revised it today, too. 
This one is not a true Sestina, but you can see the influence of Sestina 
format in it once you know what to look for.
Good Luck in writing your Sestinas if you choose to give it a try. I think 
you'll like it a lot.
